With the desire and development of Vietnamese comic works, the French Institute in Vietnam and Kim Dong Publishing House jointly organized the Comic Creation Contest.

Rodolphe Töpffer (1798-1846), a French-speaking Swiss author, is known as the “inventor” of comics in the 19th century.

Initially, comics were not immediately well received and often appeared in the form of picture books (albums) for adults or on a few pages in satirical newspapers.

After World War II, a Belgian school pioneered comic book publishing in the form of a biweekly periodical about Tintin and Spirou .

Since the late 1960s, French comics have undergone an important turning point with many unique creative works. Today, in France, comics are recognized as the "ninth art" with a long and rich tradition.

In Vietnam, Kim Dong Publishing House is known as one of the first units to bring the comic genre to Vietnamese readers.

In the 1990s, Vietnamese readers gradually became acquainted with and welcomed comic series from Japan such as Doraemon, Dragon Ball and from France such as Asterix ...
