Find mother

Báo Thừa Thiên HuếBáo Thừa Thiên Huế04/06/2023

In a small forest, there lived a mother and her cat.

Spoiled by its mother, the kitten whined and acted spoiled, refusing to learn to hunt, only relying on its mother.

One time, the mother cat had a swollen tooth, an infection, a fever, her body was hot and she could not walk steadily. She lay flat at home with nothing to eat. Her breasts shriveled up, every time the kitten snuggled in to suckle, her stomach ached, tears streaming down her face, feeling sorry for her baby.

The kitten loved its mother very much, but it didn't know what to do. It thought: If it stayed home forever, they might both starve to death. It decided to sneak out to find food. Since it was little, the kitten had only stayed at home, but now that it was out, it looked around fearfully, seeing everything strange. It saw a bird digging through the grass looking for worms on the side of the road, so it jumped forward to pounce. But with just a "whoosh" sound, the bird flew up to the top of a tree, still hanging on its tail, then shook its feathers and fell on the cat's face as if mocking it.

The kitten was very sad. It regretted. Before, when its mother was by its side teaching it how to hunt, the cat did not pay attention, only longing for the sweet drops of milk from its mother's small breasts. Now that it was independent, its movements were clumsy and awkward. It walked lazily forward. There were two mice fighting over a grain of rice. The cat was very happy. It intended to stay calm. But when it rushed forward with all its might, the two mice had already gone into a deep hole, only their tails sticking out and wagging.

The kitten missed again. Hunger began to grow. It walked forward without knowing where it was going, when an old fox stood right in front of it.

- Hey, little brat. What's wrong with the weather today that you dare leave your mother's skirt and come out here?

- Hey, Mr. Fox, my mother is sick at home. I'm so hungry, I have to go find food for her.

The old fox burst out laughing, his whiskers shaking:

- How can you find food? Seeing you, the rats are not only not afraid, but the old rat might even bite off your ears!

- Oh, is that so, Mr. Fox? Now how can I get food for my mother?

Just then a mouse was peeping in the gutter, the fox said to the cat:

- Hey kid, there's bait, try catching it.

- Yes.

The kitten walked softly, approached the mouse, it stretched and rushed towards it, the mouse with sharp ears wagged its tail and sneaked into the tree and disappeared.

The fox raised his beard, arrogantly:

- Then you'll just starve to death. You can't find food. Go home and hide in your mother's ass, kid.

- But Mr. Fox, my mother is seriously ill, I have to go find food.

- Then you have to practice hunting. Who would run around like that?

Out of pity, the fox taught the kitten how to hide, crawl up close to its prey, then hold its breath, predict its escape route and rush forward, then find a way to use its feet to pin down its prey and bite its throat, not letting it escape...

The kitten learned quickly. It blamed itself for ignoring its mother's advice, otherwise it wouldn't have ended up like this. Then the cat found its first prey. It was a fat field mouse. Although it was very hungry, it didn't dare eat it. Joy filled its heart. It grabbed the mouse and brought it back to its mother.

At the cave entrance, it called out loudly:

- Mom, baby.

No answer.

The kitten happily rushed into the house, but the mother cat was no longer there. The bed was still a bit warm. She must have just left. It panicked and rushed to look for it, still whining and dragging the prey along. It called out as it walked. God had given the cat house a sad sound, now the cat's cry looking for its mother was even more miserable, echoing throughout the small forest. The prey had started to rot, hunger was gnawing at its guts, but it still did not dare to eat, determined to go find its mother.

The cat did not know that, after the fever subsided, the mother cat woke up and did not see her child, so she panicked and went looking for her child. The mother cat went into the forest, crying out in pain as she walked, looking for her child. She wandered, came to a stream to drink water, and foraged for roots to eat. She walked day after day, tired and miserable.

Meanwhile, the kitten wandered through the southern woods. It found scraps of meat left by crows, nibbled at them to satisfy its hunger, and then, grabbing its prey, wandered off to find its mother. Suddenly, the gray wolf appeared, blocking its path.

- Hey kid, I haven't had anything to eat since morning.

So scared, the cat trembled:

- Wolf, please spare me. I'm looking for my mother. I lost her.

- You lie. What is that? The wolf saw the mouse and shouted.

- The mouse…

- Nonsense, why did you say you lost your mother and found a mouse?

- I'm not lying, Grandpa. I practiced for a long time to catch this one and bring it back to my mother, but she's gone, oh my god!

The wolf came over and asked:

- Then why are you hungry but not eating?

- I haven't found my mother yet, so I don't dare eat. My mother is sick at home.

- Huh, but it smells, if you don't eat it it will go bad.

- Please forgive me, I'm going to find my mother...

The gray wolf was moved with pity. It knew this was a dutiful cat, so it went hungry and left. The kitten was so happy that it continued to follow its prey deep into the forest. It heard a desperate, mournful cry in the air. It recognized the familiar sound and eagerly walked towards it. The closer it got, the clearer the sound became. And it was indeed the mother cat. A surge of natural strength surged up, and it dragged its prey forward. And when it reached the bank of a small stream, it recognized the mother cat's figure with her head down crying. As if by some magical power, the kitten grabbed its prey and rushed across the drying stream.

The mother and child clung to each other. They cried. Their tears flowed into the stream. The stream suddenly overflowed, and strangely, from then on the water's surface steamed warmly all year round. Animals often came here to bathe, jump, and play.

The name Suoi Meo comes from there...
