Less than a year after the Galaxy S25 Edge launched, reports from South Korea suggest that the successor has been canceled due to low sales and a change in business direction.
The Galaxy S25 Edge was initially introduced as a standout device with an ultra-thin design, anticipating Apple's iPhone Air. However, business results did not meet expectations, causing Samsung to decide to return to the traditional Galaxy Plus line in the S26 generation. Many experts believe that stopping this product reflects the company's cautious mentality in the context of fierce competition and changing market needs.
Samsung has been criticized in the past for copying some of Apple's strategies, from removing the headphone jack to leaving the charger in the box to designing accessories. The latest move continues to fuel the debate that Samsung is gradually losing the differentiation that once helped it lead the Android smartphone market.
According to internal reports, the Galaxy S26 Edge was designed with a 4,200 mAh battery and a rear camera cluster with multiple lenses. Although it was assessed to have potential, this project was stopped before completion. Meanwhile, Apple is also facing a situation of slower-than-expected iPhone Air sales, showing that the ultra-thin phone line is not really attractive to users.
Analysts say Samsung’s constant changes in direction could make its brand image unstable in the eyes of users. The South Korean tech giant was once a symbol of innovation in the mobile industry. However, in recent years, Samsung has been reacting to trends instead of creating something new.
However, there are still products that show that Samsung's innovative spirit has not disappeared. The Galaxy Z Fold7 series is a clear example of a foldable phone that is thin, durable, powerful and has received positive feedback globally. The success of the Fold7 shows that when focusing on core technology strengths, Samsung can still maintain its leading position.
Having brought iconic products like the Galaxy Note, Samsung is facing a choice between maintaining its creative identity or continuing to follow market trends. The cancellation of the Galaxy S26 Edge may just be an adjustment in the development strategy of this technology giant.
