According to Maureen Callahan, Tina Turner once admitted that there were two Tinas in the world. One was the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll" that everyone knew, and the other was the real lady who wore ballet slippers, pearls, and believed in elegance. But more than that, she was an icon, an inspiration, and never a victim of anyone.

Born Anna Mae Bullock, in poverty in Tennessee, USA. Her family was separated by war and she had to live with her strict, religious grandparents. After the war, the family reunited but not long after, when Anna Mae Bullock was 11 years old, her mother left. Later, her father also remarried.

Tina Turner is an icon of world music.

In her autobiography, Tina Turner said her parents did not love her because she was an unwanted child. At that time, her mother was very young and did not want to have more children.

Having a difficult childhood, lacking love, the climax of Tina Turner's painful life must be mentioned as an abusive marriage. The singer told this story in the 1980s, a time when domestic violence was not discussed. In America, before the explosion of social media, feminist campaigns, and harsh condemnation of violence, the victims were still not identified.

She had a life of much suffering.

Therefore, the fact that a rich, famous, beautiful woman was beaten, tortured, and raped by her husband - a famous man at that time - was something that America had never thought of.

In 1981, Tina Turner confided in People magazine: "My ex-husband was a violent man. I went through horrible torture, living like I was dead. However, I tried to survive, overcome. I got out of that marriage and never looked back."

In fact, she fled from her ex-husband Ike Turner while on tour in Dallas, Texas. She crossed the freeway, narrowly avoiding being hit by a tractor-trailer, before rushing into a hotel lobby with a credit card and 36 cents in her pocket.

"I felt strong" – Tina Turner said about her escape moment.

She then went into hiding in Los Angeles, filed for divorce, and asked for nothing more than freedom from the horrific torture of Ike Turner. Days of hard work, bills to pay, no house, car, jewelry, etc., did not stop Tina Turner from moving forward. She affirmed: "I want to be better!"

She succeeded in "wanting better!"

Nearly 10 years later, she released the album "Private Dancer" and it was a huge success. 1984 was also the year when many female singers such as Madonna, Cyndi Lauper... rose to prominence, but Tina Turner was far superior because of her strength, experience, and confidence.

Tina Turner was 44 years old at that time and still burning in the hearts of audiences, especially women. She showed that it is never too late to proactively leave a bad marriage to move on to a better life. Don't care about prejudices, love yourself.

In 1985, she turned down a role in Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple" but agreed to appear in "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" as a queen leading an army of men. "I wanted to be a female warrior in the most natural way," Tina Turner shared.

Having gone through many sorrows in the world of suffering, Tina Turner was strong enough to overcome them without complaining like a victim. That strength and vitality brought her a happy ending. At the end of her life, she found love with a good man and they both lived in Switzerland.

Despite the pain of old age brought on by cancer and kidney failure… Tina Turner still maintained her strength. She never complained, not even once. She became an inspirational symbol for a generation of women to never give up, never give in, and fight for the life they want and deserve.

So, even though she has passed away, to millions of audiences: her voice is still strong, standing at the top.
