
The industrial production index increased by 10.74% compared to the same period last year.
The overall industrial production index for May 2026 is estimated to have increased by 13.21% compared to the previous month. Within this, the mining sector decreased by 8.27%; the manufacturing sector decreased by 0.38% in some major processed industrial products such as cassava starch, RS sugar, and coffee... due to reduced input materials at the end of the production season; the electricity production and distribution sector increased by 16.93% due to increased electricity production; and the water supply and waste treatment sector increased by 2.88%.
Compared to the same period last year, the overall industrial production index decreased by 32.96%, including: Electricity production and distribution decreased by 39.90% due to lower water flow into hydropower reservoirs compared to the same period (May 2025 saw heavy rainfall, resulting in high water flow into hydropower reservoirs); mining increased by 1.59%; manufacturing increased by 38.74%; and water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment increased by 8.99%.
Overall, in the first five months of the year, the industrial production index increased by 10.74% compared to the same period last year, including: the mining industry increased by 16.34%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution industry increased by 15.17%; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment industry increased by 7.72%; while the manufacturing industry decreased by 4.18% due to a decrease in some input materials for manufacturing products such as milk, RS sugar, and cassava starch.
Compared to the previous month, some products increased : pasteurized fresh milk increased by 4.02%; processed tea increased by 251.12% due to the peak harvest season ; cement increased by 1.67%; electricity production increased by 20.54%; and commercial tap water increased by 3.56%. Some products decreased: construction stone decreased by 8.27%; refined sugar decreased by 20%; and cassava starch production ended.
Compared to the same period last year, some products increased: Construction stone increased by 1.59%; processed tea increased by 68%; cement increased by 5.1%; and commercial tap water increased by 7.39%. Some products decreased: Pasteurized fresh milk decreased by 10.33%; and electricity production decreased by 39.78%.
Overall, in the first five months of the year, some products increased: construction stone increased by 16.34%; processed tea increased by 47.06%; cement increased by 0.82%; electricity production increased by 15.22%; and commercial tap water increased by 6.08%. Some products decreased: fresh milk decreased by 5.83%; refined sugar decreased by 0.14%; and cassava starch decreased by 45.5%.
