Microsoft has announced that the Windows Hotpatch feature is now available to users of version 24H2 of the Windows 11 operating system.
Microsoft has rolled out the Windows Hotpatch feature to more Windows 11 users after initial reports of the feature surfaced in early 2024.
Windows Hotpatch was previously only available on server versions of the operating system to allow security updates to be applied directly to memory without restarting the computer.
This way, users are not bothered by update notifications, but also ensure that IT system administrators can rest assured that every device in the organization is up to date with security updates, no matter what employees are doing.
With Windows Hotpatch, users will receive 1 core update every quarter (requires a reboot) and 2 months of hotfixes that do not require a reboot. But this feature is currently only available for Windows 11 Enterprise 24H2 editions (including E3, E5, F3 and Windows 11 Education A3, A5, as well as Windows 365 Enterprise). Windows 11 Home and Professional editions do not support this feature.
Besides, another problem is that users need to have a computer with Intel or AMD CPU to use Windows Hotpatch.
Users can learn more through the announcement post and documentation from Microsoft if they are interested in Windows Hotpatch.
For users who are not eligible for Hotpatch, Quick Machine Recovery (QMR) can be a notable option. QMR helps recover unbootable computers by getting the necessary updates and patches in the Windows recovery environment.
This feature is currently in public beta and will be rolled out to all editions of Windows 11, including Home./.
