In August 2024, coal production and consumption activities were affected by heavy rain, the mobilized electricity output was mainly prioritized for hydropower, the coal demand of power households decreased... Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) directed and operated units to produce, screen, and consume coal according to plan, in addition to strengthening storm prevention, proactively producing, preparing sources and consuming, basically meeting the needs of consumers and the monthly plan targets.

Specifically, raw coal production in August reached 2.67 million tons, consumption 2.96 million tons; excavated soil reached 10.1 million m3; tunnel excavation reached 23,902 meters.

Converted alumina mineral production reached 105 thousand tons, consumption 137 thousand tons. Copper concentrate production reached 8.5 thousand tons, production of 2,605 tons of copper plate; 955 tons of zinc ingots; 17.38 thousand tons of steel billets.

In addition, TKV produced and consumed 658 million kWh of electricity; produced 4,600 tons of explosives, consuming 7,500 tons. Produced 10,500 tons of Ammonium Nitrate, consuming 8,600 tons.

With this result, TKV has completed the basic targets according to the operating plan, bringing the total revenue of the group in August 2024 to 12,650 billion VND.

Thus, the total revenue of the group in the first 8 months is estimated at 113,111 billion VND, equal to 103.5% over the same period. Commercial coal reached 36.02 million tons, equal to 110% over the same period. Raw coal production was 25.75 million tons, excavated soil and rock reached 96.84 million m3, equal to 56.6% of the yearly plan, equal to 119% over the same period. Total tunnel meters reached 177,463 meters. Coal consumption was 31.92 million tons, of which 27.85 million tons were supplied to households, equal to 101.4% over the same period. Electricity production was 6.62 billion kWh, equal to 108.7% over the same period. The targets for minerals, chemicals, and industrial explosives basically fulfilled the set plan.

Entering September 2024, the weather forecast is still complicated, with the possibility of big storms, so coal and mineral production activities are expected to continue to face difficulties, especially open-pit coal mining. TKV said it has prepared response plans for unusual weather conditions, focusing all resources on operating all production and business activities to ensure safety and stable production due to the sharp decrease in coal demand for electricity.

TKV implements the September 2024 production and business plan with a number of key targets: Producing 2.66 million tons of raw coal; 10.95 million m3 of stripped soil; 22.24 thousand meters of excavation; consuming 3.345 million tons of coal...; Alumina products reaching 110 thousand tons, copper concentrate reaching 9,050 tons, copper plate reaching 2,700 tons... Target production of 586 million kWh of electricity, 4,600 tons of explosives, 14,000 tons of Ammonium Nitrate...

To complete the set targets, TKV said it will strengthen management and inspection, especially with regard to labor safety; promote the search for markets for high-quality coal; focus on resolving difficulties and obstacles for units facing difficulties in mining conditions; continue to carry out procedures for granting mining licenses and licenses for mine waste rock as fill materials; increase coal processing and recovery at mines and waste dumps; strengthen the work of ensuring security and order, protecting mine boundary resources, etc.
