The visit aims to continue the humanitarian cooperation activities between APBA and Hai Phong Eye Hospital in the examination, consultation and free surgery for poor patients with complex vitreous and retinal diseases. This is also an opportunity for the two sides to enhance professional exchange, technology transfer and further strengthen the cooperative relationship.
From 2023 to present, the Asian Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness (APBA) in collaboration with Hai Phong Eye Hospital has organized 4 in-depth examinations and consultations for nearly 80 patients. Of which, 35 poor patients with complex vitreous-retinal diseases have received free surgery, helping them regain the "light of life". These are numbers with special meaning, demonstrating the tireless efforts of the medical team as well as the profound human values of the program, spreading the spirit of sharing in the community.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Duc Quan - Director of Hai Phong Eye Hospital, expressed his gratitude for the practical and meaningful contributions of Professor Hattori and the Asian Blindness Prevention Organization. Not only bringing light to patients, the program is also a valuable opportunity for the medical team of Hai Phong Eye Hospital to exchange expertise and learn from leading experts from Japan, a leading country in the field of ophthalmology. In particular, in March 2025, Specialist Doctor I Vu Ta Lien of the Eye Hospital was honored to be sent to Japan to participate in a 1-month intensive training course, sponsored by APBA. This is a clear demonstration of the close companionship, support and special affection that Professor - Doctor Hattori Tadashi has for Hai Phong's healthcare.
The Director of Hai Phong Eye Hospital affirmed that the cooperation program not only continues to bring practical results in community eye care, but also contributes to further strengthening the friendly and close relationship between Hai Phong Eye Hospital and APBA Organization - for the common goal of eliminating blindness and improving the quality of life for the people.
During this working trip, Professor Hattori and experts continued to coordinate with Hai Phong Eye Hospital to conduct free consultations and surgeries for patients in difficult circumstances with complex retinal diseases - contributing to restoring vision and improving the quality of life for patients.
In the first 6 months of 2025, Hai Phong Eye Hospital has fully completed and exceeded the assigned professional planning targets, continuing to affirm its position as the city's leading ophthalmology unit. Along with that, the Hospital has just opened Section C for the Pediatric Ophthalmology Department and officially activated the Electronic Medical Record system, making the Hospital the first public medical facility in Hai Phong to successfully deploy Electronic Medical Records - an important step towards a smart, modern hospital model, with comprehensive digitalization in management and operation./.
