Thai Nguyen Seeing her hair falling out in patches, a 50-year-old woman spent 11 million VND on a hair transplant but it did not improve. She then went to the doctor and found out she had lupus erythematosus.

For about three years now, she has felt tired, had poor sleep and appetite, frequent muscle and joint pain, and a lot of hair loss. Recently, her hair has fallen out in patches and she has a red rash all over her face. She went online to find out about hair transplant services, a three-session treatment costing 7 million VND plus 4 million VND for medication. After two transplant sessions, she saw no improvement in her condition, along with itching and a lot of red rash, so she went to the hospital for a check-up.

On May 4, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoai, Head of the Dermatology Department, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital, said that the patient had lupus erythematosus, and hair loss was caused by this disease. Therefore, using hair transplant services would not be effective. The patient was fortunate not to have suffered serious damage, and was prescribed anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving drugs and regular monitoring.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health , 90% of patients with lupus erythematosus are female, aged 15 to 50, the incidence of the disease is relatively rare at 50/100,000 people. This is a chronic autoimmune disease when the immune system attacks healthy cells and tissues, causing inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints and organs in the body.

Symptoms of the disease include weight loss, fatigue, mild fever, hair loss, mouth ulcers, joint pain, muscle aches, and menstrual disorders. However, the symptoms are often vague and similar to many other diseases, so they are easily confused. Many people take several years to be diagnosed.

Currently, the cause of the disease is unknown and cannot be completely cured. Lupus erythematosus cannot be self-treated at home because the disease progresses and becomes more severe, requiring monthly monitoring and testing.

Doctors recommend that when you see unusual signs of skin such as hair loss, red rash on the face, or sensitivity to light, you should go to a medical facility with a specialized clinic for examination to avoid "losing money and getting sick" and skipping the golden stage of treatment.
