Dr. Ho Hoang Thi Kim Hue, Head of the Department of Biochemistry-Hematology-Blood Transfusion, HNVN-CBDH Hospital, shared: On average, each month, the hospital needs about 800 units of packed red blood cells, 200 units of plasma and 40 units of blood platelets for emergency and treatment activities. However, currently, the amount of blood in the warehouse is about 10%, only enough to rotate for emergency treatment.
The reason for this situation is that during the merger, localities and units are consolidating their organizational structure, so there is no scheduled schedule for organizing voluntary blood donation campaigns. Meanwhile, blood transfusion centers nationwide are also facing similar difficulties, so they cannot support the province at this time. In July and August, the hospital was also not allocated any blood collection campaigns, so the possibility of blood shortages will continue in the coming time.
Dr. Nguyen Duc Cuong, Director of HNVN-CBDH Hospital, said: In order to improve the immediate situation, the hospital has proposed a solution to mobilize patients' relatives to donate blood. However, this solution is only temporary and very difficult because many patients live far away, some patients are in difficult circumstances. To ensure sufficient blood supply for emergency and treatment, the Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Mobilization Committee is requested to continue to propagate, mobilize, organize blood collection campaigns and agencies, units, and localities to actively respond to blood donation activities.
"Currently, the hospital has a fixed blood donation point at the Blood Bank of HNVN-CBĐH Hospital (3rd floor of the high-tech building), receiving blood during office hours from Monday to Friday. We hope to continue to receive the cooperation of volunteers, actively participating in blood donation to together bring life to patients," shared Dr. Nguyen Duc Cuong.
