On the morning of September 10, in Hanoi, the General Department of Engineering, Ministry of National Defense solemnly held the Ceremony to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Traditional Day (September 10, 1974 - September 10, 2024) and receive the Ho Chi Minh Medal.
General Secretary and President To Lam attended and, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, presented the Ho Chi Minh Medal to the General Department of Engineering, Ministry of National Defense.
Also attending were comrades: Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Propaganda and Education Commission; Nguyen Duy Ngoc, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief of the Party Central Committee's Office; Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; leaders and former leaders of the Ministry of National Defense, heads of units under the Ministry of National Defense, representatives of leaders of central departments, ministries and branches, and Hanoi city.

After the Paris Agreement in 1973, to meet the development requirements of the revolution, the task of liberating the South, unifying the country; implementing the Resolution of the Politburo, the Decision of the Prime Minister, on September 10, 1974, the General Department of Engineering was established. This was a very important and historic event, marking a new step in the quality of the Army in directing the concentration and unification of military engineering work.
The establishment of the General Department of Engineering marked an important step in the development of the Army and the Army Engineering sector. This is a strategic advisory agency under the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, responsible for managing and directing the technical work of the entire army. Entering the period of building and defending the Fatherland, the task of building the Army places new requirements on the General Department of Engineering; first of all, it is to reorganize the force, and carry out major tasks of equipment and technical assurance as determined by the Central Military Commission.
After 50 years of construction, fighting and growth, under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Engineering has continuously grown, excellently completed the tasks assigned by the Party, State, Army and People, and achieved many glorious feats and achievements.
With its outstanding achievements and positive contributions to the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland, the General Department of Engineering has been awarded by the Party and the State with 1 Gold Star Order, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders, 2 Military Exploit Orders and many other noble awards. In particular, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its tradition, the General Department of Engineering is honored to receive the Ho Chi Minh Order for the 3rd time. This is the recognition of the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense for the outstanding achievements of the General Department of Engineering in the recent past.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary and President To Lam warmly congratulated and commended the feats, outstanding achievements and great contributions of the General Department of Engineering, Ministry of National Defense to the revolutionary cause of the Party and nation over the past 50 years.

Reviewing the great contributions of the General Department of Engineering throughout the process of formation and development, the General Secretary and President emphasized that the General Department of Engineering has proactively advised on the issuance of specialized resolutions on leading technical work in the new situation; launched and effectively implemented the Campaign "Managing and exploiting good, durable, safe, economical and traffic-safe technical weapons and equipment" throughout the army; building technical agencies and units throughout the army at all three strategic, campaign and tactical levels with a standardized and unified technical management mechanism. The affiliated agencies and units always promote the spirit of initiative, creativity, actively apply science and technology to improve, repair, upgrade and extend the limits of existing weapons and equipment and perform well the work of management, preservation and maintenance; receive and issue modern and high-tech technical weapons and equipment.
Promoting the glorious tradition of the past 50 years, the General Secretary and President requested the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, the General Department of Engineering and the Army Engineering sector in the coming time to focus on thoroughly grasping the policies, guidelines and viewpoints of the Party, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on the task of protecting the Fatherland, military and defense tasks and building the Army so that officers and soldiers are deeply aware that adjusting the organization of the Army in general and the Army Engineering sector in particular is an inevitable and objective requirement; actively implement the merger of the General Department of Logistics and the General Department of Engineering according to the roadmap, ensuring "sleekness, compactness and strength", capable of completing all tasks, meeting the requirements and tasks of military and defense and building the Army in the new period.
The General Secretary and President said that the General Department needs to proactively advise the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense to effectively implement projects and plans on procurement, modernization, and technical assurance for the Army and armed forces; advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to lead and direct the entire army to effectively carry out the task of building a system of technical facilities in strategic areas, battlefields, and defense zones; promptly ensure technical assurance for the Army, especially the forces on duty in sea, island, and border areas, to carry out training tasks, be ready to fight, and fight victoriously in all situations.
The General Secretary and President emphasized that in the "new era", the military engineering sector must be the leading bird in scientific and technological innovation, in absorbing the latest and most modern achievements of human intelligence to apply to the development of Vietnam's military engineering and the task of industrialization of the country. The products of the General Department of Engineering must be specialized products, dual-purpose products researched, developed and produced in the spirit of "Self-reliance, self-confidence, self-focus, self-strengthening, national pride".

Along with that, the General Secretary and President said that it is necessary to strengthen innovation to improve the quality of political and ideological education; build cadres and soldiers with steadfast political will, always clearly aware of their tasks, not afraid of difficulties, ready to receive and excellently complete tasks; maintain and promote the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", promote studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. Well implement the work of Party building and rectification and regulations on revolutionary ethical standards, on the responsibility of setting examples for cadres and party members.
According to the General Secretary and President, in the immediate future, we will focus on thoroughly grasping and implementing the Directive of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission on organizing party congresses at all levels towards the 14th National Party Congress; Pay attention to building a contingent of cadres to meet the requirements of the tasks in the new situation. Continue to care for and ensure good material and spiritual life for cadres and soldiers and well implement the policy work of the Army and the Army's rear. Strengthen solidarity with local Party committees, authorities and people where troops are stationed, participate in maintaining political security, social order and safety, building new rural areas, sustainable poverty reduction, contributing to socio-economic development associated with consolidating and strengthening national defense and security in the stationed areas.
The General Secretary and President also requested to direct the comprehensive, quality and effective implementation of technical work in the People's Army and the Militia and Self-Defense Force; improve the quality of technical equipment in storage, ready to promptly respond to strategic defense and security tasks; proactively grasp the features and techniques of new technical equipment; train to improve the level of exploitation, use and mastery of technical equipment in the establishment for officers and soldiers. At the same time, do a good job of advising on attracting and promoting talents in the Military Engineering sector; train, foster and coach to build a team of technical officers and staff with good political and ethical qualities, high scientific and technical qualifications and innovative and creative thinking in work; as well as proactively apply modern scientific and technological achievements in performing technical work.
The General Secretary and President said that the Military Engineering sector, first of all, research centers and institutes, need to closely coordinate with agencies and units inside and outside the Army to promote research and development of military science and technology suitable to Vietnam's specific conditions; aiming to solve urgent requirements in exploiting, repairing, improving, and modernizing weapons and technical equipment, especially high-tech weapons and technical equipment. Research and apply new technologies and new materials to the preservation and storage of weapons and technical equipment and the design, manufacture, and production of technical supplies; be ready to receive technology transfer with foreign partners, to create new breakthroughs in military engineering work.
On this occasion, the General Secretary and President requested the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, agencies and units inside and outside the Army to continue to pay attention, lead, direct, coordinate, encourage and create the most favorable conditions for officers and soldiers of the General Department of Engineering and the Army Engineering sector to excellently complete their tasks in the new situation.
With a 50-year tradition of building, fighting and growing, the General Secretary and President expressed his belief and hope that officers and soldiers of the General Department of Engineering and the Army Engineering Sector will continue to promote the glorious tradition of "Proactive, creative, self-reliant and self-reliant"; unite, be determined, strive to overcome all difficulties, excellently complete tasks, worthy of the trust of the Party, State, Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense; continue to make worthy contributions to the task of building the Vietnam People's Army into an army that is invincible, a reliable support and pride of the Vietnamese people./.
