General Secretary To Lam and his wife set off to visit four traditional friends of Vietnam.

On the afternoon of May 5, General Secretary To Lam and his wife left Hanoi to begin a working trip to Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Belarus. These are four traditional friendly countries with long-standing friendship relations with Vietnam.

At 12:30 p.m., the plane took off from Noi Bai airport, taking General Secretary To Lam and his wife along with the high-ranking delegation to the first destination, Kazakhstan.

According to VNA, the delegation included Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Phan Dinh Trac; Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council Nguyen Xuan Thang (participating in activities with the delegation in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Russia); Minister of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang; Minister of Public Security , General Luong Tam Quang.

Also joining the delegation was Party Central Committee Secretary and Chief of the Party Central Committee Office Le Hoai Trung. Accompanying Party Central Committee members included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Minister of Justice Nguyen Hai Ninh; and Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan.

Assistant to the General Secretary, Head of the General Secretary's Office To An Xo; Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi, concurrently in Azerbaijan; Vietnamese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Pham Thai Nhu Mai; Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Ngu were also part of the delegation.

The working trip, which will last from May 5 to 12, is at the invitation of the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Belarus. The trip to Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Belarus marks General Secretary To Lam’s first state visit to these countries.

This is also a visit to friendly countries of the former Soviet Union, which have traditionally had good relations with Vietnam, and have supported and helped Vietnam in the past struggle to defend the Fatherland and in the current national construction and protection.

Thereby affirming the sincere and loyal feelings and the desire to promote long-term, effective, substantive and mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and traditional friendly countries.

For Russia, General Secretary To Lam's first visit is even more meaningful as it falls on the occasion of Russia's 80th anniversary of Victory Day. The General Secretary is expected to attend the celebration and parade at Red Square on this important event.

At the General Secretary's first stop in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Vietnam Kanat Tumysh affirmed that the two countries are entering a "golden" period to further enhance and deepen relations.

The two countries expect to take their relationship to a new level and establish a new framework for future cooperation during this visit.

Sharing with the press, Mr. Kanat Tumysh also said that many documents are expected to be signed and exchanged during this visit. The two countries have potential and need for cooperation in many fields, notably transportation logistics, defense, tourism, energy, and agriculture.

Kazakhstan is looking forward to and is especially interested in the Hai Phong - Hanoi - Lao Cai railway project which will be completed in the next 3 years.

"We also expect this railway initiative to continue from Lao Cai to Kunming, Almaty, as well as Kazakhstan's largest port city Aktau, and on to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan," he added.

The railway from Baku will then continue to Istanbul, Turkey, connecting to all European countries, helping Vietnam have a "middle corridor" in the context of complicated developments in world trade.

"Kazakhstan is ready to provide and reserve about 100-200 hectares of land to build logistics centers for goods circulation to serve projects related to cooperation with Vietnam," Ambassador Kanat Tumysh affirmed.

After Kazakhstan, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation, will pay a state visit to Azerbaijan, an official visit to Russia and attend the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, then pay a state visit to Belarus.
