On September 20, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin received Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg.
The meeting is to prepare for President Putin's visit to China next October.
According to a VNA correspondent in the Russian Federation, during the meeting, President Putin emphasized the importance of Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia from March 20-22 this year.
He assessed that the visit has created momentum for the development of relations between the two countries, especially in the context of the current international situation, promoting trade, economic and humanitarian relations between Russia and China.
Trade turnover between Russia and China in the first months of this year exceeded 120 billion USD.
President Putin hopes trade turnover will reach nearly $200 billion by the end of this year.
Mr. Putin expressed his pleasure at receiving Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Russia and believed that the exchange of views on the current situation between the two sides “will be useful.”
For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister conveyed greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to President Putin.
Wang Yi also noted that the Chinese leader's visit to Russia has set clear guidelines and created momentum for the development of bilateral relations.
According to Mr. Wang Yi, in the current context of many changes in the world, Russia and China, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, "strive for peace and development."
Wang Yi stressed that no matter how the international situation changes, “within the framework of the agreement (between President Putin and President Xi Jinping), China intends to continue to strengthen international interaction, cooperation and business cooperation with Russia.
He also said he was ready to listen to proposals on bilateral relations between the two countries.
Wang Yi added that he held the 18th round of strategic security consultations with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on September 19 and met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on September 18.
During these meetings, officials from the two countries discussed bilateral relations and preventing anti-globalization trends.
