Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently proposed to his wife once again.
At a 30th wedding anniversary party, witnessed by family and close friends, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. gave first lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, commonly known as Liza, a handwritten note that read: “Dear Liza, make my dream come true. Be my wife again. Happy anniversary.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., born in 1957, commonly known by his nickname “Bongbong Marcos”, and the first lady of the Philippines, born in 1959, first met in 1986, in New York City (USA) when Ms. Liza was practicing law there. “It wasn’t love at first sight. But once you get to know him, it’s hard not to fall in love,” AFP quoted Ms. Liza as telling their love story on television.
The couple married on April 17, 1993, in Italy. After 30 years of marriage, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the first lady have three sons together. According to AFP, Ms. Liza is considered to have played an important role in Mr. Marcos Jr.'s run for Malacanang Palace in May 2022.
“Liza is very strong. In many ways, she is like Marcos Jr.’s backbone,” said Michael Marcos Keon, a cousin of the current Philippine president and mayor of Laoag City. A Manila-based lawyer who was a college friend of Liza’s told AFP that Marcos Jr. always consulted his wife before making any decisions. According to this person, the first lady is the current president’s “number one adviser.” Marcos Jr. has said that his wife has “superpowers.”
“She said yes again! Now and in 30 years, there is no place, no one else I would rather be with than you. Liza, you will always be the woman of my dreams,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wrote on his personal Facebook page.
