Hanoi pays tribute to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and meritorious people on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2

Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that the capital city of Hanoi will forever remember the great contributions of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution who sacrificed and devoted themselves to independence and freedom.

On the afternoon of September 1st, in Hanoi , Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh presided over a meeting to express gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and those who contributed to the revolution in the capital and other provinces and cities, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The meeting was attended by 19 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Labor Heroes of the resistance war, wounded soldiers, revolutionary fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy from Hanoi and many other localities, along with representatives of leaders from relevant departments and agencies.

Historical significance and gratitude

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh extended his respectful greetings, heartfelt regards, and best wishes for good health to the Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, wounded soldiers, and revolutionary fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy.

He emphasized that 80 years ago, under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, our people achieved the victory of the August Revolution, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. National Day on September 2nd is a glorious milestone in the nation's history, associated with the independence and freedom earned through the blood and sacrifices of previous generations.

The Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee affirmed: "Hanoi, the capital city with a rich revolutionary tradition, has produced countless outstanding and courageous sons and daughters who fought and sacrificed for independence and freedom. Every inch of land, every road in the capital today bears the mark of history, steeped in the sweat, blood, and tears of heroes, martyrs, wounded soldiers, and those who contributed to the revolution."

According to him, the government and people of the capital city will forever remember the contributions of the heroic martyrs, the heroic Vietnamese mothers, the heroes of the armed forces, the wounded soldiers, and the revolutionary fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy. These are the people who dedicated their youth, blood, and even their entire lives to the cause of national liberation, national reunification, and the building and protection of the Fatherland.

Honor and pride

Also at the meeting, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that today the capital city is honored to welcome 7 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, including 4 from Hanoi and 3 representing the three regions of North, Central, and South Vietnam, from Bac Ninh , Ha Tinh, and Can Tho. These mothers have endured immense losses, sacrificing their loved ones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

In addition, the meeting was attended by 2 Heroes of the Armed Forces, 3 Labor Heroes of the resistance war, 4 wounded soldiers, and 3 revolutionary fighters who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy from Hanoi, Quang Tri, and Phu Tho. These are living witnesses who made important contributions to the victory of Spring 1975, bringing the country back to unity.

The Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized: "What has been achieved cannot compare to the boundless sacrifices and contributions. The Party Committee, the government, and the people of Hanoi will continue to pay even deeper attention to the lives of those who have rendered meritorious services, so that they and their families can always enjoy an increasingly prosperous and happy life, worthy of what they have contributed to the Fatherland."

Voices from historical witnesses

On behalf of the delegates, Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Diem (Chuong Duong commune, Hanoi) expressed her emotion and pride in witnessing this momentous occasion for the country. She thanked the authorities at all levels for their special attention and shared: “We hope that the city will continue to develop strongly. Despite my advanced age and declining health, I always encourage my children and grandchildren to abide by the policies and guidelines of the Party and State and actively contribute to the development of the capital.”

Mr. Tran Manh Hien, 81 years old, Hero of the Armed Forces, former Deputy Director of the Air Defense and Air Force Academy, also expressed his honor at being welcomed and presented with gifts by the City on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd.

“The peace our country enjoys today is thanks to the contributions of countless heroic martyrs and heroic Vietnamese mothers. Every National Day evokes profound emotions in me, especially since 1975 when the country was reunified. I hope the country will successfully achieve the goal of 'a prosperous people, a strong nation, democracy, fairness, and civilization,' including Hanoi, the capital city,” Mr. Tran Manh Hien affirmed.

Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Ba (88 years old, Long My Ward, Can Tho) was also moved to attend the 80th National Day celebration in Hanoi and receive affection and gifts from city leaders. "I am very happy to see Hanoi's streets adorned with flags and flowers, and the people excitedly preparing for the celebration," she shared.

Meanwhile, Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Manh (84 years old, Group 23, Dinh Cong, Hanoi) expressed her joy: "Before, we lived in great hardship and difficulty, so now witnessing the capital city become prosperous and beautiful makes us very happy."

Practical policies to care for those who have rendered meritorious service.

In the first eight months of 2025, Hanoi spent a total of 2,577 billion VND on preferential treatment for war veterans and their families, supporting 76,462 war veterans and their relatives. This included 1,869 billion VND in monthly allowances; 180 billion VND in one-time allowances; 36 billion VND from the central government and 175 billion VND from the city's budget for Lunar New Year; 60 billion VND from the central government and 185 billion VND from the city's budget for April 30th; 27 billion VND for July 27th; and 45 billion VND for convalescence. The city also organized six delegations to visit martyrs' cemeteries in various provinces and coordinated numerous meetings with war veterans, historical witnesses, and revolutionary veterans.
