At the time, Tesla’s brand and revenue were facing challenges due to a public backlash against the spending cuts and layoffs that Elon Musk, through his Office of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led. While Musk and Trump were once close allies, their relationship soured after the US president backed a $4.5 trillion tax cut bill that Musk opposed. The two subsequently engaged in heated social media spats that included a number of personal issues.

The relationship between the White House boss and Tesla CEO has deteriorated since the US President supported the $4.5 trillion tax cut bill that Musk opposed.

After the spat, Trump told CNN that he was no longer interested in Musk and would not be speaking to the billionaire anytime soon. As the alliance between the two men appeared to have broken down, a senior White House official revealed on Saturday that the president was considering selling the luxury electric vehicle, which Car and Driver estimates will cost between $80,000 and more than $100,000.

If the President decides to sell his Tesla, he won’t be alone in the current trend, as many other Tesla owners have also recently sold their vehicles. The sales sped up in March, when Musk and DOGE implemented drastic cuts to the federal workforce, leading to a loss of confidence and interest among those who once valued owning a Tesla, which in turn affected the company’s performance.

As for Trump's Model S, if it were sold to a collector, it would likely fetch a much higher price than listed.

As for Mr. Trump’s Model S, if it were sold to a collector, it would likely fetch a higher price. However, if it were offered on the used car market, it would likely sell for less than the manufacturer’s list price, reflecting current market trends.

Overall, the change in President Trump's decision to own a Tesla reflects not only a change in his personal relationship with Elon Musk but also changes in the electric car market in general.
