Daniel Levy's departure marks the end of an important period at Tottenham Hotspur. |
On the morning of September 5, Daniel Levy officially left the position of Tottenham chairman after an assessment by the Joe Lewis family, owner of the ENIC group - the club's largest shareholder. This decision was made in the context of "Rooster" fans continuously expressing dissatisfaction, with the hope that the club will achieve more success.
The change is seen by the Joe Lewis family as the start of a new era, with Vinai Venkatesham taking over as chief executive officer (CEO) and Peter Charrington becoming chairman.
However, Tottenham's decision to strip Levy of all his powers and push him out of the club was a shocking move. Financial expert Stefan Borson, a former advisor to Manchester City, commented: "It is normal for Levy to leave the Tottenham chairmanship, but it is unusual for him to completely withdraw and no longer have any involvement with the club."
In nearly 25 years at Tottenham, Levy has transformed the "Rooster" from a mid-table Premier League team to a club that regularly participates in the Champions League. Levy also played a major role in building the new £1.2 billion stadium, bringing Tottenham to new heights.
However, Spurs' 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season left Levy facing criticism from fans, and despite winning the Europa League, the English businessman has been criticised.
