NASVA is a prestigious organization in Japan and a partner of the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). The tests conducted by NASVA are designed to simulate real-world crash scenarios at 50 km/h, and to comprehensively evaluate the protection of drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and the effectiveness of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) both during the day and at night.
In the 2024 evaluation, the Toyota Crown sedan achieved an overall score of 188.39 out of a possible 197 points, equivalent to 95% and was ranked 5 stars, the highest level in the NASVA system. Specifically, the model achieved 92% in the collision protection criterion and up to 97% in the collision prevention criterion thanks to the new generation Toyota Safety Sense system. In particular, the Toyota Crown sedan also scores highly in pedestrian safety. The car is equipped with a hood that can automatically pop up when a collision is detected to minimize injuries to the person being hit.
In addition to the Toyota Crown, other models that were highly rated by NASVA in 2024 include the Mazda CX-80 and Honda Civic (both with 94% of the total score), the Honda WR-V and Freed (90%) and the Suzuki Fronx (84%). Of these, the last two models were rated 4 stars for safety, while the remaining models achieved 5 stars. Toyota Crown is a car line with special significance in the history of Japanese car manufacturers. The 16th generation of Crown was introduced globally in July 2022, marking a turning point with modern design and diverse configurations. Currently, Toyota Crown is sold in the Japanese market with 4 variants: Crossover, Estate, Sport and Sedan. In the North American market, Toyota only distributes Crossover and Estate versions. 2025 also marks the 70th anniversary of the Crown line.
According to Toyota UK Magazine, the first Crown rolled off the production line on January 1, 1955 from the Koroma factory (Japan), with the entire mechanical system designed specifically to suit the operating conditions in that country at that time.
