From now until June next year, the Thu Duc City government and districts in the city will provide free digital signatures to people.
The information was given by Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City at a conference to promote the popularization of digital signatures in the area on the afternoon of June 5.
Digital signatures act as signatures for individuals or seals for businesses and are legally recognized. Currently, digital signatures are used in electronic tax declarations, customs, social insurance, electronic invoices, online public services, etc.

Accordingly, the Department of Information and Communications coordinates with digital signature service providers and districts to provide free personal digital signatures to people when performing administrative procedures in the electronic environment.
In addition, this year, the city will also organize booths to issue personal digital signatures at events such as the Journalists' Book Week from June 17-22 at the City Book Street, the International Book Festival (scheduled from September 25 to October 1), and the 2024 Tet Giap Thin Book Street Festival.
According to Mr. Thang, in the plan to implement the digital transformation program and build a smart city in Ho Chi Minh City in 2023, the City People's Committee requires 100% of administrative procedures to be eligible to be provided online. Therefore, in order to operate online public services, digitization and application of digital signatures to legalize digital records of citizens and results of administrative procedure processing by state agencies are mandatory requirements.
Recently, almost all state agencies in the area have been granted digital signatures. At the same time, more than 11,000 digital signatures have been granted to local officials and civil servants.
Mr. Nguyen Kho Din, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Vietnam Digital Signature and Electronic Transaction Club, said that the advantage of digital signature is that it brings quickness in handling procedures, without the need for manual signing. This method will help save time, reduce operating and travel costs. In the case of signing a contract, the parties involved do not need to meet, reducing the obstacle of geographical distance.
