After merging administrative boundaries with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training identified the development of school sports, especially Vovinam, as one of the key goals for 2025.

On August 5, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Vovinam Viet Vo Dao Federation to organize a professional training course at Ta Quang Buu High School (Ho Chi Minh City) for nearly 150 physical education teachers in the old Ho Chi Minh City area. The content includes competition rules, refereeing methods and organizing activities in schools.

Speaking at the opening of the training course, Ms. Huynh Le Nhu Trang - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that this training course opens the journey of spreading the spirit of Vietnamese martial arts in the educational environment. From there, Ho Chi Minh City will train students who are not only strong in knowledge, but also strong in physical strength - morality - national spirit.

This is the first of three training courses that will be held in the new areas after the merger. The remaining two courses for Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau are expected to take place before the new school year, focusing on martial arts instruction and building Vovinam clubs in schools.

In addition, the specific plan of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City wants to focus on creating Vovinam clubs in schools. Before the merger, grassroots clubs managed by districts often coordinated to organize Vovinam activities in schools. However, these were not clubs belonging to schools in an official capacity. The Department's Board of Directors wants school sports to be developed substantially right in schools.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 2,971 schools. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Vovinam Federation to develop a long-term and systematic plan from the school level to the club level within the school. Select 100 schools with physical education teachers who were coaches, athletes, and have Vovinam expertise to build clubs within the school.

Vovinam is currently one of the five competitions at the National Student Sports Tournament and is receiving heavy investment from Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition to the training program, at the beginning of the school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will plan a Vovinam martial arts performance with a record number of up to 55,000 students to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification. The performance will take place at the Saigon River park.
