Ho Chi Minh City plans to build a bridge connecting An Phu Dong - District 12 and Binh Thanh

The project to build Vam Thuat bridge will have a pre-feasibility study report prepared and submitted to the competent authority for investment decision in 2025. This information is stated in the summary of responses to voters' petitions of the Department of Transport and Public Works (now the Department of Construction) of Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the Vam Thuat bridge connecting An Phu Dong ward (District 12) and ward 13 (Binh Thanh district) previously had an investor propose to invest under the public-private partnership (PPP) method, however the investor stopped the research.

After that, the Department of Planning and Investment (now the Department of Finance) reported to the City People's Committee to propose that the Vam Thuat bridge project be included in the list of projects calling for investment by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and was approved in 2022. Currently, the city is calling for investment in the construction of the Vam Thuat bridge.

Along with calling for investment, the city assigned the Department of Construction to study and prepare a proposal for the project of building Vam Thuat bridge and upgrading and expanding Vuon Lai road, District 12.

Currently, the Department of Construction is coordinating with the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Management Board, the People's Committees of District 12 and Binh Thanh District to prepare a pre-feasibility study report and plans to submit it to competent authorities for investment policy decision in 2025.

An Phu Dong iron bridge is currently overloaded and degraded after being put into use for a period of time.

When completed, Vam Thuat Bridge will replace An Phu Dong iron bridge, which is deteriorating after being put into use.

Previously, in 2024, when implementing the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal renovation project, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, the investor proposed to invest in building the Vam Thuat bridge (across the Vam Thuat river) connecting Binh Thanh district and district 12.

According to the proposed plan, Vam Thuat bridge will be built with reinforced concrete, permanent scale, the bridge surface will be from 16 to 20 m wide with 4 lanes.

The bridge connects directly from Dang Thuy Tram Street (Ward 13, Binh Thanh District) to An Phu Dong (District 12) - this area currently has no existing road, only the planned extension of Vuon Lai Street. The total investment of the project is estimated at about 1,136 billion VND.
