Ho Chi Minh City announces 10th grade enrollment plan

For the first time, some specialized high schools in Ho Chi Minh City are recruiting students nationwide.

On the morning of March 30, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a plan for 10th grade enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year. Notably, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted are recruiting candidates nationwide and registering completely online. It is known that candidates in other provinces and cities must fully meet a number of enrollment regulations, with students in Ho Chi Minh City if needed.

In this school year, Ho Chi Minh City has 2 methods of enrolling 10th grade students, including admission to Thanh An Secondary and High School in Can Gio district (only for students who graduated from secondary school at this school in the 2024-2025 school year).
In addition, most candidates will take the entrance exam, which is conducted for candidates who have graduated from junior high school in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the entrance exam method, which is carried out in 2 phases. In phase 1, students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam for grade 10 at public high schools. In phase 2, depending on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of high schools, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City decides to recruit additional students and has a document guiding the implementation, to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of recruiting enough students for schools that are still lacking many students.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also noted that students should choose to register their wishes near their current residence to avoid being admitted but not submitting their admission application. Candidates will take three essay tests including math, literature (120 minutes/subject), and foreign language (foreign language 1 being studied at school, test time 90 minutes). The expected test date is June 6 and 7, 2025. According to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the test score is the total score of each question in the test, the test score is calculated on a 10-point scale, with odd points up to 0.25. Admission score: is the total score of the three tests and additional points for priority and incentive subjects. Candidates admitted must take all three tests and no test has a score of 0.
