Ho Chi Minh City: Commemorating the 725th anniversary of Saint Tran Hung Dao

On the morning of October 10, at the Tran Hung Dao Temple (36 Vo Thi Sau, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), the Temple Management Board, together with local authorities and a large number of people, solemnly held the 725th death anniversary of the Great King Tran Quoc Tuan (1300-2025), an outstanding national hero, also worshiped by the people as Tran Hung Dao.

Mr. Nguyen The Dinh, Head of the Tran Hung Dao Temple Management Board, emphasized: “More than 7 centuries have passed, but the image of Saint Tran Hung Dao still lives forever in the minds of Vietnamese people. He is not only an outstanding general but also a thinker, the one who laid the foundation for Vietnamese military art. His Proclamation to Soldiers and Military Strategy Essentials are still a valuable spiritual heritage, arousing patriotism, indomitable will and national solidarity.”

Representatives of Ho Chi Minh City leaders and delegates offered incense to show their respect on the death anniversary of Saint Tran Hung Dao.

The Organizing Committee said that the death anniversary is not only an occasion to commemorate the great contributions of Saint Tran Hung Dao but also a cultural and religious activity with profound educational significance, reminding today's generation of loyalty, sense of responsibility for the country, and firm belief in the leadership of the Party and State in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Many people attended the incense offering ceremony to pay tribute to Saint Tran Hung Dao.

The atmosphere of the ceremony was solemn. After the memorial ceremony, delegates, believers and people paid tribute to the great hero who three times commanded the army and people of Dai Viet to defeat the Yuan-Mongol army, protecting national independence. This was followed by lion and dragon dances and excerpts from the Tran Dynasty's history, recalling the heroic moments of the nation, attracting a large number of people and tourists to attend.

Many cultural and artistic activities such as lion and dragon dances, singing and mediumship are held.

Within the framework of the memorial ceremony, from October 10 to 12, the Tran Hung Dao Temple will hold a series of traditional ritual activities including: the Female Worship Committee (10:00 a.m. on October 10 and 11), the Hat Van - Hau Dong ritual (1:00 p.m. on October 10), the Male Worship Committee (10:00 a.m. on October 11) and the closing thanksgiving ceremony (2:00 p.m. on October 12).

The annual death anniversary is considered a cultural landmark of the city.

In the stream of people respectfully attending the ceremony, there were not only the elderly but also many young people, students and people of Ho Chi Minh City offering incense in memory. For them, this was an opportunity to live in the sacred atmosphere of history, to be reminded of the example of "forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people" of Saint Tran Hung Dao, the immortal symbol of Vietnamese patriotism.

The death anniversary of Saint Tran Hung Dao is not only a day to commemorate the merits of the national hero but also a cultural activity bearing the gratitude of Ho Chi Minh City, always knowing how to preserve and honor the eternal spiritual values ​​of the Vietnamese people.
