The HBSF - MIN Table 2024 Billiards Championship officially opened on December 21 in Ho Chi Minh City. The competition that attracted the most attention from fans was the men's 3-cushion carom. The first round of the 3-cushion carom event has a total of 64 players competing, playing in a 2-for-2 format, each match is scored to 35 points and there are no equal turns. The 32 players who pass the first round will enter the knockout round (each match is scored to 40 points).
The round of 64 players competed over 2 days, December 21 and 22. On the first day, Tran Quyet Chien took the field and won both matches, thereby winning a ticket to the round of 32 (taking place on December 24). In the opening match, Quyet Chien successfully "avenged his debt" when he defeated PBA (Korean professional billiards league) player Nguyen Duc Anh Chien 35-29. In the second match, Quyet Chien dramatically defeated Ho Quan Thai with a score of 35-33, after 28 turns.
Tran Quyet Chien entered the knockout round (32 players) with 2 wins.
Ngo Dinh Nai also impressed, advancing to the round of 32 with an all-win record. The player currently playing for PBA won a thrilling match against Nguyen Van Tung Em 35-33 after 23 shots, and continued to win against Tran Quoc Vinh 35-20 after 24 shots. Notably, when meeting Quoc Vinh, Ngo Dinh Nai had a series of 9 points to coolly end the match.
