The tournament attracted more than 12,000 registered athletes and for the first time featured the competition of world -class runners, ranked highly in the professional athlete system of the World Athletics Federation.
The 2023 Hanoi Heritage International Marathon will start on the morning of October 15.
Continuing the values of "culture - professionalism - international" and with the orientation of "Creating Hanoi's sports heritage through running steps", the Hanoi Marathon - Heritage Race 2023 continues to promote the strengths that have created success for the race in previous seasons while having breakthrough activities to continue to improve the quality of the race.
This year, for the first time in Vietnam, domestic athletes have the opportunity to compete with world-ranked runners, ranked highly in the professional athlete system of World Athletics, including Dino Sefir, Askale Magarsa or Jebesa Dabesa.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tri, General Director of DHA Vietnam Company, the owner of the race, affirmed: “Inviting professional runners with high rankings in the world to compete in the Hanoi Heritage International Marathon is a testament to the determination of the Organizing Committee in raising the international level of the race, while also creating a playground for athletes, especially professional Vietnamese athletes, to have the opportunity to compete to improve their personal achievements in preparation for participating in competitions at international marathon arenas.
The achievements of 2:35:49 of National athlete Hoang Nguyen Thanh and 2:49:00 of Le Thi Tuyet at the recent 32nd SEA Games show that there is quite a big gap in achievements between us and the world.
Therefore, the Hanoi Heritage International Marathon will make more efforts to create a playground with the participation of international-class athletes so that domestic athletes have the opportunity to compete, improve their achievements, and contribute to bringing the Vietnamese marathon to new heights."
In 2023, the Race will continue to be recognized as eligible to participate in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group Ranking System.

Athletes' achievements at the 2023 Hanoi Heritage International Marathon will be recognized as qualified and will be eligible to register to participate in any of the six most prestigious races in the world, including the New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon, London Marathon, Boston Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and Berlin Marathon.
According to Mr. Tri: “Participating in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group Ranking System, along with the effort to bring world-class runners to compete in the 2023 season, has helped put Vietnamese marathons on the world marathon map, contributing to making Vietnam a destination that attracts many international-class athletes. This will contribute to the effort to restore and develop Vietnam tourism in a sustainable direction.”
Up to this point, the organization work, technical work on the race track as well as plans to ensure security and safety of the race track, recruitment and training of volunteers... have all been completed.
In addition to the final prize, there are also prizes for the elite system and prizes by age group, to encourage all athletes to achieve high results and all people who love running to practice enthusiastically.
The total cash value is up to more than 700 million VND, in which the overall First Prize for the Elite category (applicable to both men and women) worth 60 million VND will be a great encouragement for the athletes participating in the Tournament.
Great news for the runner community participating in the 2023 Hanoi Heritage International Marathon is the official return of veteran doctor and runner Dinh Linh as Race General Manager.
Dinh Linh's professional experience as a leading Vietnamese interventional cardiologist and doctor, and practical experience from participating in many international running competitions and managing the 365 Running Club for many years, are a guarantee for the Organizing Committee's efforts in improving the professional quality of the Competition.
It is also an image that helps athletes gain inspiration and confidence to stride strongly on the track and achieve the best results.
Hanoi Police and Hanoi Department of Transport have issued an official dispatch agreeing on the time, location, route schedule and security and safety plan for the race. In guiding traffic organization on October 15, the race day, the Department of Transport outlined the principle of flexible opening and closing at intersections.
Because the athletes will run through many routes of 5 inner-city districts of Hanoi, the Organizing Committee will organize many forces such as police, traffic inspectors, Bao An security company, volunteers... to guide and ensure safety at all intersections, especially at key intersections and control the running route.
On streets with lanes divided to have dedicated lanes for runners, the Organizing Committee will combine iron fences and signs, reflective tapes... to divide the lanes and have security forces and volunteers on duty at each section of the road to guide people and runners to the correct lane. The division of lanes and traffic regulation will be carried out in a rolling manner to shorten the time to do this.
