
According to Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People's Committee Pham Tuan Long, the preservation and promotion of heritage values in Hoan Kiem District has always been of interest to the city, the Party Committee and the authorities of Hoan Kiem District. From the good preservation of values, Hoan Kiem has strongly developed service and trade activities, bringing high economic value. It is estimated that in the first 6 months of 2025, the budget revenue in the district reached about 19,000 billion VND. In which, tourism activities have made a very important contribution. In the work of preserving and promoting heritage values in Hoan Kiem District, there are great contributions from architects, researchers, artists, folk artisans... The dedication of organizations and individuals not only contributes to preserving traditional values but also raises community awareness, arouses national pride, thereby enhancing the image, position and attractiveness of Hoan Kiem on the national and international cultural and tourism map.
Hoan Kiem is the place with the highest density of cultural heritage in the city and is a typical land bearing the cultural identity of Thang Long - Hanoi . The district currently preserves about 190 historical - cultural relics, including many famous works, representing historical, architectural and artistic values such as: Hoan Kiem Lake relic complex - Ngoc Son temple - Ba Kieu temple, relic 48 Hang Ngang - where President Ho Chi Minh wrote the Declaration of Independence, Quan Su pagoda, Kim Ngan communal house, Bao An pagoda (Lien Tri), King Le temple, O Quan Chuong, heritage house 87 Ma May, Bach Ma temple, Kim Ngan communal house, Hanoi Opera House, Hoa Lo Prison, Hanoi Cathedral, National Museum of History, Vietnam Revolution Museum, Dong Xuan market...
In particular, Hanoi Old Quarter - with 36 streets - is considered a "living museum" of the formation and development of Thang Long citadel. The ancient houses, typical architecture, the system of temples - pagodas - shrines - communal houses along with the lifestyle and traditional customs of the residents associated with many ancient craft villages have contributed to creating the unique cultural identity of this land. This area not only clearly reflects the geographical conditions, living conditions and beliefs of the ancient Hanoians but is also a place where many Eastern and Western cultures intersect, an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

Hoan Kiem is also a locality that possesses a rich and unique system of intangible cultural heritage. Many typical traditional art forms such as ca tru, hat xam, hat van... are still preserved, restored and spread in contemporary life. Traditional festivals such as Bach Ma Temple Festival, Old Quarter Mid-Autumn Festival, Gold and Jewelry Festival, King Le Coronation Festival... are held annually with many scales and diverse forms, reflecting the depth of beliefs, spirituality and strong community spirit of the residents of the Old Quarter. Hoan Kiem Old Quarter with 36 streets not only preserves economic and commercial values but also clearly reflects the traditional urban structure and civilized urban lifestyle of the ancient Hanoians.
Over the past years, Hoan Kiem district has proactively implemented many programs, plans, projects to renovate and improve urban infrastructure; build public cultural spaces; restore and embellish the system of historical and cultural relics; develop cultural and social careers, build a civilized lifestyle, and form the image of elegant, intelligent and responsible Hoan Kiem people; thereby creating a driving force for socio-economic development in the direction of trade - services - tourism.
On the occasion of the 64th anniversary of its founding, Hoan Kiem district honored 3 groups and 64 individuals who have made many contributions to preserving and promoting the values of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the area.
