The project to increase the clearance of road bridges crossing national inland waterways, phase 1, in the southern region includes building 9 new bridges, upgrading one bridge and dismantling one bridge, with a total investment of 2,155 billion VND.
To ensure the efficiency of water transport, the bridge clearance must be sufficient for ships to load 3-4 containers. In the photo is Cho Gao Canal, a vital waterway connecting the southern provinces with Ho Chi Minh City. Photo: Trung Chanh |
On January 6, the Ministry of Transport coordinated with the People's Committee of Ben Tre province to organize a ceremony to launch the construction of the Project to increase the clearance of road bridges crossing the national inland waterway route, phase 1 (Southern region).
With a total investment of VND 2,155.9 billion, the Project to Improve Clearance of Road Bridges Crossing National Inland Waterways Phase 1 (Southern Region) will build 9 new bridges, upgrade and renovate one bridge and dismantle one bridge crossing national inland waterways.
The project to improve the clearance of road bridges crossing the national inland waterways, phase 1 (southern region) is divided into two construction packages. Package CĐT-XL01 includes the construction of Moc Hoa, Sac Dec, Hong Ngu, Mo Cay bridges; renovation of Giong Gang bridge; dismantling Mang Thit bridge. The contractor selection, contract signing and implementation conditions have been completed.
Package CĐT-XL02, construction of Dong Thuan, Dong Binh, O Mon, Thoi Lai, Vam Xang-Thi Doi bridges is in the process of selecting contractors, expected to be implemented in January 2024.
The Mekong Delta, the Eastern and the Western regions of the South have been allocated three major projects to develop inland waterways. These are the Cho Gao Canal expansion project phase 2, which has just been completed; the project to increase the clearance of 11 bridges; and the Southern logistics corridor development project funded by the World Bank (WB), which is in the negotiation phase and will soon be implemented in the near future. |
This is a project to improve the transport infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta region, ensuring synchronous exploitation of waterway transport on the entire route; enhancing the capacity of transporting goods by inland waterway between the Mekong Delta region to Ho Chi Minh City as well as seaport clusters in the Southeast region and vice versa.
According to the Ministry of Transport , the current condition of the above bridges all have limited clearance conditions, both vertical and width, making watercraft traffic difficult and unsafe, especially container vessels.
To ensure the efficiency of container water transport, the bridge clearance requirement must be sufficient for ships to load 3-4 containers. The Ministry of Transport will accelerate the project progress so that by 2025, these 11 bridges can be put into operation in conjunction with the Cho Gao Canal expansion project, expanding the logistics corridor, facilitating the movement of ships.
