Early implementation of dredging and clearing of urban drainage system

From February 2025, the Department of Economics, Infrastructure and Urban Areas of Son Tra District coordinated with relevant wards and units to complete the actual inspection, review and statistics of the drainage system along the roads that needed to be dredged. In early April 2025, Son Tra District deployed a bidding package for urban drainage services according to the decentralization in the district in 2025. Within 45 days (from April 1 to May 15), contractors carried out dredging of mud, soil and waste in the drainage system along 29 roads such as: Le Lam, An Hai 16, Ly Tu Tan, Nguyen Truc... The total length of dredged sewers was more than 9.38km along with 638 manholes with a total dredged material volume of about 1,370m3.

Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Affairs Department of Son Tra District Cao Hoang Thang said that so far, contractors have completed dredging the drainage system along 29 roads. Son Tra District is implementing the dredging and clearing of rainwater intake gates on the road surface, to be completed before August 15 under the direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee. To ensure drainage and prevent flooding, the district has directed wards to dredge ditches and drainage culverts in alleys and lanes; drainage ditches behind houses, dirt ditches, and existing open ditches; to propagate and mobilize people to clear rainwater intake gates in front of their houses as well as remove materials covering the gates, open the rainwater intake gates at locations that have been filled in... to be completed before August 31.

Over the past month, many groups of workers from Ngu Hanh Son Wastewater Treatment Station (Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company) have dredged and cleared stormwater inlets and ditches on many roads in Ngu Hanh Son district, such as Mai Dang Chon, Tran Bach Dang, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Tran Dai Nghia, Vo Chi Cong, Chuong Duong, Nguyen Van Thoai... At the same time, they have proactively repaired and replaced damaged nets, nets, beams... to ensure drainage and urban aesthetics.

Head of Ngu Hanh Son Wastewater Treatment Station Nguyen Thi Ngoc informed that in 2025, it is expected to dredge about 3,570 drainage ditches and stormwater inlets on many roads in the district. The station has completed dredging more than 50% of the ditches and inlets, the rest will be completed before August 31. In the near future, dredging of sewers in the district will be carried out to ensure drainage and prevent flooding. Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company plans to dredge and clear drainage in more than 60 sewers along 35 sections, roads and canals in the second and third quarters of 2025.

According to the Department of Construction, the city prioritizes allocating resources to serve the dredging of inlets, water intake ditches and drainage systems associated with community supervision. Focusing on dredging and clearing the drainage system throughout the city before the rainy season of 2025 (before August 31) is an important task and is regularly monitored and directed by the Chairman of the City People's Committee. As the focal agency advising on State management of urban drainage, the Department of Construction regularly requests and urges units and localities to focus on implementing related tasks, ensuring maximum efficiency of the existing drainage system under its decentralized management.

Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Luong Thach Vy acknowledged that compared to before, the proactive response to flooding in the city has improved significantly. The Department of Construction regularly monitors and urges the implementation of units and localities in clearing and dredging the drainage system. Localities actively promote and receive consensus, coordination and joint implementation from the people.

The Department directed the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company and requested the People's Committees of districts to focus on surveying and clearing all water intake gates and ditches under their management before the 2025 rainy season to effectively exploit the current drainage system; pilot the renovation of water intake gates, improve the ability to collect rainwater on the road surface and reduce the impact on people due to odors from the intake gates. At the same time, urgently speed up the progress and complete unfinished drainage projects; focus human resources to speed up the implementation of procedures and documents for drainage works that have been researched and implemented... in order to promptly implement construction to increase drainage capacity when there is local heavy rain.
