Implementing the project to renovate the railway in the Khe Net Pass area

(QBĐT) - This morning, March 22, in Huong Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa), the Ministry of Transport (MOT), the People's Committee of Quang Binh province and the Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) held a ceremony to launch the project to renovate the railway in the Khe Net pass area, part of the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway line.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Nguyen Van Thang, member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Transport and leaders of the Ministry of Transport.

On the side of Quang Binh province, there were comrades attending: Tran Hai Chau, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Tran Thang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of departments, branches and localities. Also attending were representatives of the Military Region 4 Command; EDCF; representatives of the Korean Embassy in Vietnam .

The Khe Net Pass Railway Improvement Project on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway line was approved by the Ministry of Transport in Decision No. 1890/QD-BGTVT dated July 6, 2010 and adjusted in Decision No. 3351/QD-BGTVT to negotiate and sign the EDCF Loan Agreement and the adjustment was approved in Decision No. 2215/QD-BGTVT dated November 27, 2020.

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy spoke at the ceremony and gave the order to start construction of the project.

The project consists of 2 packages, including: Package XL-01 to construct 2 railway tunnels, total length 935m, implementation time 23 months by the joint venture of Ilsung Company - Deo Ca Group; in which, tunnel 1 is 620m long, tunnel 2 is 393m long, tunnel gauge 10m, designed according to the standard of level I railway tunnel; Package XL-02 to construct bridges, railways, signal information works and the remaining works by the joint venture of Ilsung - Railway Construction Corporation (RCC), construction time 22 months. The main construction volume of the project includes works of the route, station, tunnel, signal information.

This is the first railway project in Vietnam to be implemented with ODA loans from EDCF and counterpart capital from the Vietnamese Government with a value of more than VND 2,000 billion.

At the ceremony, the representative of the joint venture Ilsung Company - Deo Ca Group said that immediately after the launching ceremony, a large number of human resources and equipment will be mobilized to focus on building the project with the spirit of thinking truly, doing truly, achieving real efficiency, and creating real value.

The Khe Net Pass Railway Improvement Project, once completed, will improve railway infrastructure, increase speed, shorten train journeys on the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway route, ensure smooth, orderly, and safe railway traffic operations, and improve the capacity and quality of transport services.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy requested the ministry's advisory agencies to closely coordinate with investors, contractors, and consultants to supervise the implementation of the project to ensure quality and progress; to prevent corruption and loss during the implementation process; and to assign the Vietnam Railway Corporation (RCC) to closely coordinate during the construction process and receive the project upon completion for operation.

The Deputy Minister of Transport also hopes to continue receiving attention and support from the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Binh province in site clearance and resettlement and direct competent agencies to support investors and contractors during the construction process.

Immediately after the ceremony, delegates performed the button-pressing ceremony to start the construction of the railway renovation project in the Khe Net Pass area.

On this occasion, leaders of the Ministry of Transport and leaders of Quang Binh province presented gifts and encouraged officers and workers of contractors constructing the project.
