Kia has just issued a recall notice for more than 51,500 Kia Carnival 2022 - 2023 models after many car owners reported that the electric sliding doors on this model are faulty, which can cause injury to users.

Not long after being distributed to the market, the Korean automaker has just announced a recall of more than 51,500 Kia Carnivals produced in 2022 - 2023. This move came after Kia received a series of complaints from users about the electric sliding doors on this model having a defect. This problem has even caused 9 Kia Carnival users to be injured.

Specifically, according to the Korean car company, a total of 51,568 Kia Carnival cars are affected and have been recalled to fix the sliding door defect. Kia has also opened an investigation into 9 cases of users being injured while using Carnival cars related to the sliding door defect.

Among these, one child had his hand caught in the door frame after pressing the close button. Another child had his hand caught after his father pressed the close button, causing scratches. The remaining cases reported injuries included a broken thumb and a broken arm when the door was closing.

During the investigation, Kia and the third party (a company in the field of biomechanics) did not find any evidence that the car doors were not designed properly. Both parties also determined that the automatic door closing system and automatic reversing function of the Kia Carnival are similar to many other models distributed on the market.

However, in the announcement of recall campaign number 23V23600, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) concluded that "the automatic reversing feature of the power sliding door on the affected Kia Carnival may not work in all situations".

In Vietnam, Kia Carnival is assembled and distributed by Truong Hai ( THACO AUTO). Last year, total sales of Kia Carnival reached 9,320 vehicles. In the first 2 months of 2023, Kia dealers in Vietnam also sold a total of 666 Kia Carnival vehicles. However, in Vietnam, there have been no cases of sliding doors on the car being defective like the versions in the US market.
