North Korea conducts tactical nuclear attack drills.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on August 31 that the Korean People's Army (KPA) conducted a tactical nuclear attack drill on the evening of August 30, in response to the ongoing joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea.

According to KCNA, the KPA's tactical nuclear weapons unit in western North Korea conducted related exercises simulating the destruction of key command centers and airfields in South Korea.

The missile unit fired two tactical ballistic missiles from Pyongyang International Airport northeast, hitting their targets and exploding in mid-air at an altitude of 400 meters above the target island. KCNA asserted that the exercise was intended to send a strong message to the United States and South Korea.

In a separate announcement, KCNA said that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the KPA General Staff's exercise command center on August 29 to learn about the situation of the command exercise involving the entire military.

According to KCNA, in response to the current situation where the U.S. and South Korea are conducting large-scale military exercises simulating an all-out war against North Korea, the KPA General Staff conducted a command exercise involving the entire military to assess and test the command capabilities and organizational structure of commanding officers of large combined arms units at all levels.

According to the plan, the Ulchi Freedom Shield joint military exercise between the US and South Korean armies will conclude on August 31st.
