The outstanding appeal of applying AI (artificial intelligence) in tourism services lies in its ability to communicate in multiple languages.

Experiencing local culture is always appealing to tourists.

Mr. Kim Min Chang, a South Korean tourist, shared that in the past, when he visited Da Lat , the first thing he had to do was find someone who spoke Korean to act as an interpreter for his sightseeing activities. In 2006, very few people in Da Lat spoke Korean. Therefore, he had to pay 10-15 USD per day for an interpreter, in addition to the cost of sightseeing and food. “Now, interpreting has become much easier. AI quickly helps international tourists overcome language barriers in an instant,” Mr. Kim Min Chang stated.

AI also helps tourists optimize their personal experiences, from planning and booking tours, choosing transportation and attractions, to providing real-time support and answering all their questions. Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao, the owner of a hotel on Bui Thi Xuan Street (Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat), shared: “We have digitized 360 -degree images of our hotel across multiple platforms, helping tourists visualize the rooms clearly; thus, making informed decisions about their stay.”

According to Ms. Thao, a positive first impression of the rooms is crucial. It determines whether or not tourists book a stay. Therefore, digitizing images of the accommodation and optimizing online interaction is a way to attract tourists to experience the room services. “Tasks such as taking photos, shooting videos , and editing videos for hotel marketing, which previously required hiring professionals, can now be done simply by giving commands to AI. As a result, the cost of hiring tech-savvy personnel has decreased significantly, to less than 10% of the cost of hiring people to take photos, shoot videos, and edit videos,” Ms. Thao explained.

In reality, many businesses, hotels, and restaurants in Da Lat have implemented smart tourism applications, integrating AI to promote their image and reach the right target customers. Many travel agencies have also used AI to analyze customer data based on their search habits to understand trends and personal preferences, then provide suggestions on tours, routes, itineraries, hotels, restaurants, etc.

With more and more travelers choosing AI as a travel assistant, many travel experts believe that AI is reshaping how people plan, book services, and enjoy their trips. AI offers many outstanding benefits, helping to optimize budgets, reduce operating costs, decrease the need for tourism service personnel, and significantly improve the traveler experience. When asked whether AI could lead to unemployment for tourism professionals, Mr. Huynh Ngoc Hai, an international tour guide, commented: “Clearly, AI has dramatically changed the way the tourism industry operates. The tourism value chain has also changed significantly because of AI. However, the view that AI will completely replace humans… is still too early to discuss. In reality, AI helps optimize costs and experiences, in addition to reducing the logistical burden during the journey… but human connection in tourism activities remains essential, especially in experiences related to local culture, entertainment, and personal interaction…”.

According to Mr. Hai, AI application is a trend in the digital age. Maximizing the advantages of AI, building a smart tourism ecosystem, and focusing on core values are ways for the tourism industry to adapt to the changes in the digital age.
