Implementing the Resolution of the Central Military Party Committee, on January 7, 1965, the Ministry of National Defense decided to establish Missile Regiment 236 - the first Missile Regiment of the Vietnam People's Army.

With outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the US, saving the country, the Regiment was awarded 4 Military Exploit Medals (First, Second, Third Class); 28 Military Exploit Medals (4 First Class, 9 Second Class, 15 Third Class), 1 Flag "Determination to defeat the American invaders" and many other noble awards. The Regiment has 5 collectives and 10 individuals who were awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. From 2015 to present, the Regiment has been the leading flag in the emulation movements of Division 361.

Authorized bythe President , the Minister of National Defense, and the Head of the Air Defense - Air Force Command, Colonel Le Anh Chien, Commander of Division 361, awarded the Second Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Regiment 236.

Speaking at the ceremony, Colonel Le Anh Chien, Division Commander of Division 361 acknowledged and congratulated the achievements of Regiment 236, and at the same time requested the Regiment to build officers and soldiers with a strong political stance, constantly raise awareness of the situation and tasks in the new revolutionary period, especially in performing the task of combat readiness, airspace management, not to be passive, surprised, or miss opportunities in any situation; focus on making breakthroughs in building discipline, managing discipline, strengthening measures to grasp and manage ideology, and building a good and healthy cultural environment.
