According to Reuters, the head of the US Indo- Pacific Command Sam Paparo and the commander of the Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Wu Yanan had a video call on September 10.
The US and China have just had a high-level military phone call.
During the call, Mr. Paparo said the two sides had a constructive and respectful exchange.
The US hopes to open new regular military communication channels with China after Washington shot down a Beijing balloon in 2023, sending bilateral relations to a record low.
For his part, Mr. Ngo A Nam affirmed that the two sides had in-depth exchanges of views on common concerns. The above phone call took place less than 2 weeks after US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan's visit to Beijing in late August.

In another development, according to RT, the US and China participated for the first time in the large-scale joint military exercise "Operation Formosa" led by Brazil this week in the city of Formosa, Goias state (Brazil). The US and Chinese militaries have not conducted military exercises together since 2016.
This year’s exercise will involve 33 personnel from the Chinese Navy and 54 from the US Navy. However, Reuters quoted Pentagon spokesman Pete Nguyen as saying that although Chinese troops were present, Washington and Beijing forces would not train together.
The purpose of the exercise is to simulate amphibious operations, in which warships conduct attacks on enemy coastal areas and plan landings on a designated beach.
