Nguyen Thi Dang (born 2013) is a 7th grade student at Vo Thi Sau Primary and Secondary Boarding School, Xa Nu village, Tra Giap commune. Her childhood was filled with hardship. Her father passed away when she was 3 years old, and her mother passed away when she was in 2nd grade. The five children were helpless, relying on each other to survive.
Nguyen Thi Dang is the fourth child, after her there is a younger brother who is in 2nd grade. For many years now, Dang has lived with her eldest sister, Nguyen Thi Xin, who is also poor, raising two children alone, due to an unfulfilled marriage... Life has been full of hardships, but the orphan girl has never given up. During her 5 years in primary school, she has always been an excellent student; in 6th grade, she continued to maintain her good academic record.
This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, thanks to the twinning activity between Ban Thach ward and Tra Giap commune, according to the policy of the City Party Committee, Dang's pure Mid-Autumn dream has come true.
This year is also the first time that students of Vo Thi Sau Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities have been filled with the sound of lion drums and clear laughter. Here, they can celebrate a full-scale, complete and meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival, with activities such as breaking the moon cake, dancing with lions, and enjoying a buffet with many kinds of cakes and snacks.
As for Dang, the joy was even greater. In addition to the general gift, he also received a laptop, a gift that his family had never dared to think of. With sparkling eyes, he said it was “the most precious asset, like a dream come true”.
Nguyen Thi Dang has always loved Computer Science, now she has another tool to study and learn new knowledge. She promises to take good care of it, study hard to not let down her teachers, her sister and those who have shared with her.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Vice Principal of the school, shared: “Dang’s situation is very special. He is young but has great determination, always trying to study and live independently. This year, thanks to the twinning relationship, the students of the whole school had the happiest Mid-Autumn Festival ever. For Dang, this is an unforgettable memory.”
Mr. Vo Thanh Cung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ban Thach Ward, expressed: “Through the survey, we know that there are still many poor and orphaned students in Tra Giap, but Ban Thach's ability to support is limited. Hopefully, gifts and Mid-Autumn Festivals like this will kindle more faith and motivation for the children to overcome difficulties and rise up.”
The full moon of August in Tra Giap this year is therefore brighter and warmer. For Dang, that Mid-Autumn night is not just a party, not just a computer, but also a touch of a dream, a dream of being shared, of being cared for, of being given more strength to continue writing the journey to the future.
