The bright spots
The mountainous northwestern area of the city comprises 13 communes: Song Vang, Song Kon, Dong Giang, Ben Hien, Avuong, Tay Giang, Hung Son, Thanh My, Ben Giang, Nam Giang, La Dee, La Ee, and Dak Pring.
Over the years, job creation in general, and sending workers abroad for fixed-term employment in particular, has seen many positive changes here. From relying solely on farming, the people have boldly sought employment in countries such as Japan, South Korea, and Laos to improve their income and living standards.
Five years ago, the family of Ms. Tran Thi Hoa (Song Vang commune) was one of the poorest households in the commune. To improve their lives, Ms. Hoa's daughter decided to work in Japan, saving up money to send back to help the family. Now, Ms. Hoa has built a spacious new house and has capital to invest in livestock farming, increasing her income.
In La Dêê commune, thanks to working abroad, dozens of families have acquired capital to invest in businesses, develop livestock farming, and sustainably escape poverty.
Mr. Tơ Ngôl Như (from La Dêê commune) recounted: “For almost a year now, I've been working in Laos, tending and harvesting bananas. The work is simple, doesn't require high qualifications or skills, so it's very suitable for people in mountainous areas. Every month, I save about 15 million VND to send home to cover expenses and as capital for starting a business after returning to my hometown.”
Mr. Le Van Tu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Vang commune, said that sending workers abroad brings many benefits to the people and the locality.
For families and migrant workers themselves, working abroad provides a relatively good source of income. This serves as clear "living proof," helping local authorities to encourage people to change their perceptions and habits in job searching.
Enhance communication
During recent job fairs organized by the Department of Internal Affairs in mountainous communes, the topic of sending workers abroad for employment attracted considerable interest from the local population.
Organizations and businesses involved in sending workers abroad often disseminate useful information about relevant situations, potential markets, support policies, income, etc., to help workers gain a better understanding and change their perceptions.
At a recent job fair in Tay Giang commune, 10 companies and businesses participated, offering thousands of vacant positions.
Notably, many businesses are looking to recruit 200 to 500 workers for employment in countries such as Japan, South Korea, Germany, and several other European countries. The diverse job sectors include: automotive technology, electrical equipment assembly, metal welding and painting, machinery maintenance, elderly care, nursing, and more.
Besides learning about the job market, workers are also informed about regulations regarding working abroad, loan support policies, etc., to help them choose suitable employment.
Mr. A Rất Nhước (from Tây Giang commune) shared: “The job fair provided a lot of useful information. I am looking for opportunities to work in agriculture or livestock farming in South Korea or Japan.”
According to the leaders of Song Vang commune, sending workers abroad is one of the targets set out in the commune's Party Committee resolution and is considered an important task by the local government.
“Currently, Song Vang commune has a policy of linking with departments and agencies of the city and will register young people and workers in the commune to work abroad if they meet the requirements. At the same time, we are coordinating with vocational schools to promote vocational training for workers, ensuring that workers will have immediate and stable jobs after completing their training,” said Mr. Le Van Tu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Vang commune.
Mr. Do Huu Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Kon commune, informed that the locality will soon organize a job fair, inviting units with needs in the aforementioned fields to participate. The goal is to send at least 10 young people to participate in the overseas labor market.
Particular attention should be paid to the following groups: demobilized soldiers, demobilized police officers, and unemployed college and university graduates.
"These individuals are fully qualified to participate in the overseas labor market, especially in countries like Japan and South Korea. These countries offer stable incomes and have cultures and lifestyles similar to Vietnam," Mr. Tung shared.
Mr. Tung said that people in mountainous areas often have a hesitant and reluctant attitude towards traveling far. The local authorities will strengthen efforts to educate and raise awareness so that people gradually change their perceptions and habits regarding job seeking, viewing overseas employment as a prime example of poverty alleviation.
In addition, the locality focuses on training and equipping people with the necessary basic skills and professional knowledge before they go abroad to work, ensuring a highly effective labor process.
