In the mountainous commune of Quang Duc, Quang Duc Kindergarten has 12 classes with 320 children who constantly face unique challenges due to the local socio -economic conditions. Therefore, information about the school milk support policy has brought great joy to the school and parents.
Ms. Luong To Trinh, Principal of Quang Duc Kindergarten, said: “This policy demonstrates the province's concern for human development. Many young children from disadvantaged families do not have the means to drink milk every day. Providing milk at school will help narrow the nutritional gap between children in mountainous areas and those in more affluent regions. This is also an opportunity for the school to raise awareness among parents about nutrition and instill good habits in their children.”

According to teacher Luong To Trinh, the policy not only provides nutritional value but also contributes to increasing parents' trust in the quality of care and education provided by the school, helping children to be healthier and more enthusiastic about learning, thereby stabilizing attendance rates.
In reality, the need to improve children's nutrition is essential. Reports from relevant authorities show that malnutrition among preschool children in Quang Ninh continues to increase with age. In the nursery group, the rate of underweight malnutrition is 1.48%, and stunting is 2.11%. In the kindergarten group (3-5 years old), these figures are 1.73% and 1.86%, respectively.
The Department of Health also noted that the malnutrition rate for children under 5 years old throughout the province remains at 4.74% underweight, 5.71% stunted, and nearly 2% wasting; specifically for children under 2 years old, the stunting rate is 3.76%. These figures indicate the need for strong and long-term nutritional interventions to improve children's health from the early stages of life.
In this context, the resolution on school milk support is seen as an important and timely solution. Accordingly, preschool and primary school children will drink milk during school days (nursery children receive 110ml/day; kindergarten and primary school children receive 180ml/day, for a maximum of 175 days/school year). The entire cost of purchasing milk is covered by the provincial budget. Each year, approximately 207,000 children will benefit, with a total estimated cost of 1,725 billion VND for the entire period.
In the mountainous, border, and island areas of the province, the effectiveness of the policy is even more evident. Many children who have not had regular milk intake at home will benefit from daily milk supplementation at school, which will help improve their immunity and support height development – a crucial factor during the "golden" period from 0 to 10 years old.

In the long term, this policy not only addresses immediate nutritional needs but also lays the foundation for better health, contributing to the province's goal of improving the quality of its human resources. It also provides an opportunity to strengthen the bond between schools, families, and the community, raise awareness about nutrition, and build healthy eating habits for children.
As soon as the resolution takes effect, schools will implement it synchronously and fully inform parents so that all children can benefit. Early implementation of the policy will help preschool, kindergarten, and primary school children quickly receive nutritional supplements, improve their physical health, create a foundation for comprehensive development, and contribute to achieving Quang Ninh's goal of caring for and educating future generations in a practical and sustainable way.
