Towards green living space

Promoting the advantages of developing eco-tourism and resorts, the Party Committee, government and people of Cai Chien island commune are making efforts to realize the aspiration of building their homeland into a symbol of green and sustainable living space.

Cai Chien Commune Party Committee has identified tourism as a spearhead economic sector, the “golden key” to open the way for sustainable development for the island commune. Despite many difficulties, thanks to the consensus of the Party Committee, government and people, the commune’s trade and service activities associated with tourism have made a strong breakthrough.

In the period of 2020-2025, the total revenue from tourism and services of the commune reached more than 314 billion VND, an increase of nearly 9 times compared to the beginning of the term; the number of visitors increased steadily every year, estimated at 62,000 in 2025. From a few initial accommodation establishments, the commune now has 23 establishments with 237 rooms, basically meeting the increasing needs of tourists.

Dragon Head Resort invested by Lam Ngoc Duong Group, with a total capital of over 570 billion VND, an area of ​​over 21 hectares, has completed phase I and put into operation, becoming an important highlight in the development of high-quality tourism in the commune. Cai Chien is actively calling for investors inside and outside the province to invest in eco-tourism, resorts, community tourism and island experiences; completing dynamic infrastructure, such as tourist ports, clean water supply systems, lighting, transformer stations, wastewater and solid waste treatment projects, towards sustainable development.

Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Dinh Quang Manh shared about the development orientation: Cai Chien determines that socio-economic development, especially tourism, must be associated with protecting the ecological environment, preserving the natural beauty and identity of the island. The goal is to build Cai Chien into a symbol of green living space, where every construction and project is associated with the criteria of sustainability and harmony between people and nature. Cai Chien today is not only a tourist destination, but also a place where people and visitors join hands to build a green living space. We hope that every citizen will become an "environmental ambassador", together preserving the beauty of the sea and islands - the invaluable asset of the homeland.

Along with tourism development, Cai Chien focuses on green agriculture - forestry - fishery, considering it an important pillar of the local economy. The total added value of this sector in the period 2020-2025 of the commune reached 180 billion VND, an increase of more than 175% compared to 2020. Aquaculture and fisheries activities are organized sustainably, with typical products such as cage fish, oysters, seaweed, mollusks... serving tourism. The commune mobilizes people to plant large timber forests, casuarina trees to block waves, increase forest cover to 65%, contributing to environmental protection and climate change response.

In 2023, Cai Chien was recognized as a commune meeting advanced NTM standards. In 2025, the commune strives to achieve a model NTM; economic growth rate of 15.3%; average income of 92 million VND/person; 100% of households using hygienic water, 80% of households using clean water.

Resolution of the 1st Congress of Cai Chien Commune Party Committee, term 2025-2030, sets the target: Average income of 120 million VND/person/year in 2030; continue to attract investment, develop eco-tourism, marine economy associated with environmental protection. Cai Chien becomes a bright spot of "green - clean - beautiful - safe island commune", contributing to the implementation of the province's "green - comprehensive - sustainable" development goal.

Located in the chain connecting Mong Cai - Van Don - Co To island tourism, Cai Chien has favorable conditions to form a chain of tourism, marine logistics and fishing logistics services.
