Dong Thap University organizes student tournament, inaugurates billion-dollar field

Promote 11-a-side student football, develop school sports

Dong Thap University, although only participating in the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper for the first time at the beginning of this year, has made a strong investment in school sports. The school has built an 11-a-side artificial turf football field on its campus. The field surface and facilities are very spacious with quite neat functional rooms, a grandstand and a lighting system for late matches, meeting some of the standards of the VFF (the lighting system is worth nearly 5 billion VND).

To inaugurate the football field, at the same time to promote the spirit of physical training, create conditions for exchange and learning between students of universities and colleges; contribute to building a dynamic and healthy school environment and promote the sports movement among students, Dong Thap University decided to organize an open tournament for students.

This is an opportunity for universities and colleges to discover and select excellent students to prepare for regional and national football tournaments. The tournament attracted 8 teams including Cuu Long University, Dong Nai University of Technology, FPT University Can Tho, Saigon Polytechnic College, Kien Giang University, Vinh Long University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and the host team Dong Thap University.

On July 17, the launching ceremony and draw of lots for the schedule of the first Dong Thap University Cup student football tournament in 2025 took place. Assoc. We also received the support of nearly 30 sponsors, the national supervision and referee force of VFF with the standards being carried out very professionally."

The 8 teams were drawn into 2 groups with very equal results. Group A has the host team Dong Thap University and the teams of FPT University Can Tho, Cuu Long University, and Saigon Polytechnic College. Group B has Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports (champion of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Championship in 2024), Dong Nai University of Technology (third place winner of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Championship in 2024), Vinh Long University of Technical Education and Kien Giang University. The teams will compete in a round robin to calculate rankings, selecting the first and second teams in each group to enter the semi-finals. The 2 winning teams will compete in the final, the 2 losing teams will share third place. The total prize is more than 100 million VND. All matches will be livestreamed live.
