Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son signed Decision No. 1299/QD-BGDĐT appointing Associate Professor Dr. Tran Xuan Truong – Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Mining and Geology – to the position of Rector of the university for a term of 5 years.
The decision was made to strengthen the leadership team of higher education institutions during the reform period in accordance with Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW; while ensuring stability, continuity, and development in line with the reform of the governance model of public universities as stipulated in the Law on Higher Education (amended) of 2025.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Xuan Truong was born in 1975 in Hoang An commune, Phu Tho province. He is a former student of the Surveying major at the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, graduating in the 1993-1998 cohort.
After graduating, he stayed on to work at the University as a lecturer, continued to complete his master's program at the University of Mining and Geology, and then successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Earth, Space and Environmental Sciences at Université Grenoble Alpes - France.
Associate Professor Tran Xuan Truong has held many important management and leadership positions such as: Deputy Head of Department, Head of Department, Vice Rector, Chairman of the University Council and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology.
Along with the Decision appointing the Rector, the Minister of Education and Training also signed decisions appointing the Vice Rectors of the school: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Vinh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trieu Hung Truong, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh.
