According to the Admissions Council of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, the total number of candidates registered to take the entrance exam in 2023 is 755, of which the largest number is in the Drama and Film - Television Acting major, with 560 candidates. Meanwhile, the enrollment quota for this major is 38, showing a "competition" ratio of approximately 1:15. Similarly, the remaining majors also have a relatively high competition ratio. The Cinematography major recruits 15 candidates - the number of candidates taking the exam is 55; the Stage Directing major recruits 12 - the number of candidates taking the exam is 41; the Film - Television Directing major recruits 30 - the number of candidates taking the exam is nearly 100.
It is known that the Drama, Film and Television Acting major is also the only major that organizes a preliminary exam (taking place on July 2-3). After the preliminary round with 560 candidates, the Admissions Council selected 128 candidates to enter the final round to select 38 successful candidates.
The final talent exam for the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema took place over three days, July 4-6. On July 4, candidates took an analysis test for works of art, while candidates majoring in Drama, Cinema and Television took a preliminary exam, without an analysis test. In the final round, these candidates took an aptitude test by performing a stage play according to the exam questions, expressing situations as required by the judges, and answering questions related to the exam questions.
The talent competition for the remaining majors, depending on the specifics of each major, will have different content. In particular, the Film and Television Directing major will watch and edit festival photos according to a theme based on photos provided by the Jury, and at the same time answer questions related to the field of film and television.
Candidates of the Film major at the University of Theatre and Cinema take outdoor photos for an aptitude test on campus.
Stage Directing: Candidates present a skit based on a theme, situation, and props determined by the Jury. Candidates may or may not participate in a role; and answer questions related to the field of theater. Filming: Candidates take photos, then take an oral exam on knowledge of visual arts and analysis of the photos taken.
The new point of this year's exam is that the photography activity of the Filming Department, instead of being organized outside the school, is now staged on campus, which creates a lively atmosphere on the admissions day, while helping the invigilators and the admissions council to provide timely support as well as better manage the candidates. In addition, organizing outdoor activities at the school also saves costs and creates more safety for the candidates.
