The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just announced the number of first-choice candidates registered for grade 10 from more than 100 high schools in the city. Among them, Gia Dinh High School has a very low number of registered candidates.
This is unprecedented in the school's admission history, as the number of candidates applying to Gia Dinh High School is high every year. In the past 4 years, the competition rate for grade 10 at Gia Dinh High School has never been less than 1 to 2. The school's admission score is also sky-high, and has been in the top 10 of the city for the past 10 years.
However, in 2025, Gia Dinh High School recruited 960 students, but only 1,058 first-choice candidates (registered (including integrated), the competition ratio was 1.1, ranking 51st (calculating general, regular and integrated). The low number of candidates registering for NV1 this year at Gia Dinh High School surprised many people.

The top schools with high competition rates this year also have many surprises. The 10 schools with the highest competition rates are: Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted; Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School; Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted; Nguyen Huu Huan High School; Vinh Loc High School; Pham Van Sang High School; Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School; Le Quy Don High School; Vo Truong Toan High School; Ngo Quyen High School.
Of which, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia specialized schools recruit students nationwide. In particular, Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (separated from Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School) has a strong breakthrough in its second year of recruiting. If calculated by the competition ratio (normal), it is number 1 in the city. If calculated in general including specialized, normal and integrated, it is number 2, just behind Le Hong Phong Specialized High School.
Among the 10 schools with the highest competition rates, it is not surprising that there are schools with the highest admission scores such as: Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Le Quy Don High School.
However, another surprise is that Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, which has had the highest admission score in the city for 10 consecutive years, is not in the top 10 schools with the highest competition rates.
According to regulations of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, from May 14 to May 19, candidates can change their 10th grade wishes, so the competition rate to enter schools will certainly fluctuate.
