Vietnam Airlines has just announced that it will begin applying new regulations according to Directive 24/CT-TTg in 2025. The biggest change is that passengers without checked baggage must check in online or at a kiosk, instead of going to the counter as before.

According to the instructions, only passengers with checked baggage and special groups such as children traveling alone, the elderly, people needing assistance, etc. can continue to check in at the counter.

The remaining passengers are required to complete the entire ticket purchase, check-in, security check and boarding process using biometric solutions integrated with VNeID or through airport kiosks.

The company recommends that people authenticate VNeID level 2 to fully utilize the utility and avoid errors during the check-in process.

Vietnam Airlines also announced detailed procedures when checking in on VNeID.

Accordingly, passengers log into the application with a level 2 identification account, select "Other services" and continue with "Check-in online".

After agreeing to share data, passengers are transferred to the Vietnam Airlines app to complete check-in and eKYC. At the airport, passengers perform biometrics at the security gate and boarding gate. If they have checked in but have not yet eKYC, the system will request additional information right on VNeID.

According to the recommendation of airline staff, passengers download the app of Vietnam Airlines or Vietjet , when checking in on VNeID, it will be connected with the airline's app. From there, the connection procedures will be faster.

Airlines say the new process is said to help shorten check-in times, reduce waiting times, and increase accuracy through biometric verification. Passengers also no longer have to worry about forgetting their identification documents – a common reason for missing flights.

Airport staff will be deployed to assist customers.

Switching to online form can be confusing for those who are not familiar with VNeID, easily encountering situations such as forgetting passwords, slow operations or losing network connection right at the airport.

Therefore, passengers are advised to install and authenticate their accounts first, try checking in online to check the application's functionality. In the initial stage, passengers should still bring their ID or passport in case the system needs to check.

Vietnam Airlines said it will deploy support staff at airports during the initial implementation period. The new process is expected to bring a more modern and faster experience. Passengers need to proactively prepare to avoid minor incidents that could affect flight schedules.
