"These positive signals have shown that the pilot project, opening the way for State films to reach the public, is correct," said Mr. Thanh.
Previously, the number of viewers booking tickets to see the movie Dao, Pho and Piano (screenwriter and director: Phi Tien Son) increased dramatically, causing the National Cinema Center's website to crash in the past few days, and as of February 19, it still had not returned to operation.
The center had to open more screenings, from 3 to 11, 15 and now 18. Mr. Vu Duc Tung, acting director of the center, called this "an unprecedented phenomenon".
Mr. Vu Duc Tung commented that this phenomenon shows that if State films have trendy scripts and content that touches viewers' emotions, they are completely capable of being released in theaters.
Peach, pho and piano suddenly became "hot" thanks to a TikToker who went to see the movie and reviewed it, then received "support" from many movie and showbiz groups on Facebook.
However, there are many concerns about the ability of State-owned films to be released and stay in theaters. Some viewers commented: "Dao, Pho and Piano are phenomena, but other State-owned films are not certain."
Looking at the two State-run films released this time, it can be seen that compared to its "brothers" Dao, Pho and Piano, Ms. Hong Ha is quite inferior. From February 10th until now, the film has only been shown 3 times a day at the National Cinema Center, and the discussion about the film online is not large.

Released at the same time, Dao, Pho and Piano were "hot" while Hong Ha was "faint" for a reason. Besides some negative comments about the film , Dao, Pho and Piano also won over many audiences.
Mr. Vi Kien Thanh said: "The film has creative explorations in cinematic language, especially Phi Tien Son's mark when creating a film that accurately represents the spirit and temperament of Hanoi people in the years 1946-1947".
The film also won the Silver Lotus at the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival in Da Lat late last year.
This phenomenon does not exclude other objective reasons. The film "benefits" from Tran Thanh's Mai - the biggest box office phenomenon of this year's Tet season.

In movie and showbiz groups and forums, there is a large number of anti-Tran Thanh audiences. They call for people to watch the movie Dao, Pho and Piano , instead of watching the movie of "Le To" (how some anti-fans call Tran Thanh).
In addition, the fact that Dao, Pho and Piano were only shown as a pilot at the National Cinema Center (Hanoi) created a fever for ticket hunting as only a few thousand tickets were sold each day.

It is still too early to talk about the path of State films to theaters. Dao, Pho and Piano are phenomena, a welcome sign, but if State films still maintain the old way of making films, the old way of thinking, will the phenomenon remain just a phenomenon?
For state-owned films to compete with commercial films and establish a position at the box office, a comprehensive change is probably still needed, not only in the way of thinking about filmmaking but also in the way of "selling" and promoting the product.
