University Admissions 2025: Revealing the group of majors with great attraction

TP - This year's benchmark scores for the Pedagogy group are forecast to continue to be at the highest level among all training groups. The reason is that the average score of some traditional admission combinations of the industry is higher than other combinations and the new policy has affected the candidates' choices.

Touch the absolute threshold

According to experts, the benchmark score of the Pedagogy group this year continues to hold the top position. In 2024, the benchmark score for admission based on high school graduation exam scores at Hanoi National University of Education ranges from 22 to 29.3 points. There are up to 8 Pedagogy majors with scores above 28 points, of which the Literature and History majors record the highest score of up to 29.3 points, equivalent to an average of nearly 9.8 points per subject. Similarly, the History Pedagogy major of Saigon University achieved the highest benchmark score of 28.25 points, followed by Literature Pedagogy with 28.11 points and Mathematics Pedagogy with 27.75 points.

At Hong Duc University (Thanh Hoa), the Pedagogy group has high benchmark scores such as Literature Pedagogy leading with 28.83 points, History - Geography Pedagogy 28.58 points and Primary Education 28.42 points. Many other majors also have benchmark scores exceeding 26 points such as: Preschool Education, Mathematics Pedagogy and English Pedagogy.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam, Vice Principal of the University of Education (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) commented that the benchmark scores for Pedagogy majors in 2025 are likely to increase. This increase comes not only from enrollment needs but also from positive psychological impacts before the Law on Teachers takes effect from January 1, 2026.

According to Mr. Nam, the Law on Teachers passed by the National Assembly has created great motivation in terms of spirit and professional status. Because the Law not only affirms the key role of teachers in the national education system but also introduces a series of specific preferential policies, such as: Teachers' salaries are ranked at the highest level in the public career system; there are preferential allowances for the profession; regional allowances, responsibility allowances; and retirement policies suitable for each level of education and each region. These are all policies that are creating great expectations for the future generation of teachers.

Great attraction

In 2025, it was recorded that at the two largest pedagogical universities in the country, the number of candidates registering for two separate exams for admission increased sharply. Hanoi National University of Education had nearly 17,500 candidates registering for the capacity assessment exam organized by the school, an increase of nearly 6,000 candidates compared to 2024. Ho Chi Minh City University of Education organized 3 specialized capacity assessment exams with a total of 19,000 candidates taking the exam, more than double that of 2024 (with 8,500 candidates).

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Duc Son, Principal of Hanoi National University of Education, said that the Law on Teachers was passed and officially came into effect, creating motivation for many students. Therefore, he expected that the quality of enrollment in the education sector this year would be better. The number of students who won the National Excellent Student Award from Third Prize and above, applied to the school and were eligible to be admitted to Hanoi National University of Education was more than 500 (last year it was about 300 and about 100 were directly admitted).

Not only affected by policies, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thanh Nam said that the Pedagogy industry has become more attractive thanks to the shift in students' thinking when choosing a career. Many students realize that education is not only a stable career, beneficial to society but also a way to change their lives and their families. They see in the teaching profession a viable future, a respected position and increasingly better support," Mr. Nam shared.

Another key factor that makes the education industry attractive to candidates is the attractive financial support policy. Teacher training programs are exempted from tuition fees according to Decree 116/2020/ND-CP, and are supported with about 3.6 million VND/month for living expenses during the study period. This helps to significantly reduce the financial burden compared to many other professions.

According to Mr. Nam, the country's current policies focus on four main pillars: Science; Technology; Innovation and Education. This is an important foundation for the pedagogical sector, especially the training sectors of basic sciences such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, to have more and more potential for strong development.

In addition, Pedagogical schools are also proactively seeking scholarships, financial support and building clear career paths for graduates, creating a shift in awareness and career choice behavior of candidates.

According to admissions officers, the top majors have the same or even higher admission scores than last year. At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the admission scores for the top majors are expected to remain at 26.5 – 28 points.
