On the evening of July 17 (local time) in Jakarta (Indonesia), the Vietnam U23 team returned to the training ground to urgently complete the final preparations for the opening match at the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
Sharing with the media before the training session, midfielder Nguyen Phi Hoang - one of the players who participated in the U23 Vietnam team that won the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship said: "This is the second time I have participated in the tournament and every time I gather, I set a goal of winning the championship.
The second time is the same as the first time, I always aim for the best results, determined to bring the Championship Cup home to the fans".
Sharing his experience participating in the tournament, Phi Hoang emphasized: “Every year the tournament is different, and the opponents are also more advanced. The whole team must concentrate fully and fight with the highest spirit.”
Talking about the competition for positions, the midfielder said: “Opportunities are shared among all players. Whoever performs well in training and is trusted by the coaching staff will have the opportunity to play.”
This training session on the evening of July 17 is very important for the whole team, it is an opportunity to review and evaluate the overall personnel as well as the tactics that will be applied for the match with U23 Laos tomorrow, July 19.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik directly manages the entire training session's curriculum.
The Korean coach constantly urged his players, ready to stop training sessions to promptly correct technical details, and at the same time test some alternative options for the position of striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan - who unfortunately suffered an injury and had to leave the tournament.
Regarding Thanh Nhan's absence due to injury, Phi Hoang shared: "Everyone in the team is important, Thanh Nhan's injury is a pity. I hope Nhan will return soon, because there are still many important tournaments ahead. I wish Nhan a speedy recovery."
Assessing the preparation conditions of U23 Vietnam when there was no practice session to familiarize themselves with the competition field while opponents Laos and Cambodia had already played a match before, Phi Hoang affirmed: "I think the most important thing is the preparation of the team. If the brothers in the team are united and highly focused, they will not face any significant disadvantages."
According to plan, U23 Vietnam will have its last training session today, July 18, before entering the opening match in Group B against U23 Laos tomorrow, July 19.
