The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, said Comcast (CMCSA.O) NBCUniversal CEO Linda Yaccarino is in talks for the position. In a recent Twitter post, billionaire Elon Musk also hinted that his replacement at Twitter would be a woman.
"Excited to announce that I have hired a new CEO for Twitter. She will start in about 6 weeks!", Elon Musk wrote on Twitter.
Billionaire Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he has found a new CEO for this social network.
Elon Musk also said he will move to the role of chief technology officer of the social media platform in the coming weeks.
Billionaire Elon Musk took over as CEO of Twitter after completing the $44 billion acquisition of the company in October 2022. In December, he announced that he would step down from the position when he found a good enough candidate to replace him. At that time, Mr. Musk wanted to move to run Twitter's server and software division.
Ms. Yaccarino, a former Silicon Valley executive and Hollywood executive, interviewed Musk at an event in Miami last month.
Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer was also suggested in conversations among Twitter employees, along with others like former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, Shivon Zilis - CEO of Elon Musk's startup Neuralink, SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell and Tesla president Robyn Denholm.
For his part, as CTO, Musk will oversee the company's products, software, and systems.
Tesla shares rose more than 2.1% in trading on May 11, reflecting easing investor concerns about Musk spending more time on Twitter.
Ms. Yaccarino has yet to comment on the news that she will become CEO of Twitter.
When asked for comment, an NBCUniversal spokesperson said Linda is focused on her work.
