Boldly raising the giant snake - a large wild animal in Da Huoai district, Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung, a billionaire in Lam Dong, has earned billions of dong each year.
Ms. To Thi Cuc, Mr. Nguyen Van Thu and Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung are well-known snake farmers in Da Huoai district. They are all pioneers, boldly converting traditional farming methods to snake farming models that bring high economic efficiency in the locality.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung, a billionaire in Lam Dong, raises snakes on his farm, earning billions of dong each year.
The snake breeding model of Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung in My Duc commune (Da Huoai district) is known by many people because it brings "huge" income to the owner. This is also the method that the local government is encouraging people in the area to learn and follow.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung said that since 2023, realizing that the model of raising rattan snakes is highly effective, he has converted 0.5 hectares of land in My Duc commune to build a snake farm. The snake farming area he built has an area of about 3,000 square meters, divided into many sub-areas for each age of snakes.
After building the farm, Mr. Dung ordered wooden cages to release thousands of snake breeders.
Mr. Dung said that compared to the weather in the North, snakes can only be raised from February to October, but with the climate in Da Huoai, they can be raised all year round due to the high temperature range of 23-32 degrees Celsius.
According to Lam Dong billionaire Nguyen Quang Dung, the main food for the snakes raised on the farm is discarded poultry. This live food is "served" on plastic plates and then put into the cage to "invite" this specialty to "eat".
"Currently, my farm is raising about 10,000 snakes, of which 50% are commercial snakes. I have mastered the technology of incubating snake eggs.
A female snake lays an average of 10-12 eggs at a time. If the eggs are good, I incubate them for breeding. If the eggs are not good, I incubate them to raise as commercial snakes.
Currently, this method and model in the locality is bringing high efficiency, so I am planning to continue to multiply the herd to 15,000-20,000 snakes of all kinds. I also plan to establish a cooperative, transferring techniques to farmers in the area who want to raise snakes," said Mr. Dung.
Currently, the main food for raising snakes is discarded chickens and ducklings that Mr. Dung buys from poultry suppliers. This type of food is nutritious and also suitable for the needs of the snake.
Mr. Dung, a billionaire in Lam Dong, raises a specialty species of snake, the buffalo snake, and has mastered the technology of hatching snake eggs, so he is the main investor in input.
With the selling price of commercial snakes from 400,000-500,000 VND/kg (sometimes reaching 700,000 VND) plus the selling price of breeding snakes from 150,000 - 200,000 VND/snake, Mr. Dung has an income of 2.5-3 billion VND/year.
In particular, dry snake skin when the snake molts is also bought by customers for about 200,000 VND/kg, bringing a stable source of income for Mr. Dung.
The leader of the People's Committee of My Duc commune (Da Huoai district, Lam Dong province) said that the snake breeding model of Mr. Dung's family has brought high and stable economic efficiency in the locality.
With the climate and weather conditions in Da Huoai district, snakes are stable, grow well, and have few diseases, so breeders have many advantages.
Besides, the market for consuming this wild animal species that is allowed to be raised commercially still has a lot of room, so the locality is also encouraging people to develop it.
