According to Mr. Le Luu Dung, this lake has a rather small area of about 10 square meters and is surrounded by a lot of mud. However, the water in the lake is extremely clear and calm.
The company's explorers tried swimming down into the lake to find out more.
The unusually deep, cold lake is located near the entrance to Thung Cave, in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
A strange thing is that this lake always maintains a stable water level and has a very cold water temperature, about 16 degrees Celsius. Much colder than other lakes in Thung Cave.
The expedition team tried to measure the depth of the lake and the result was really surprising with a depth of more than 12 arm spans equivalent to nearly 18m. This is an unbelievable depth for a lake with such a small surface area.
While there is another underground river flowing across this lake, this underground river is at a lower depth. And this mysterious lake is also much deeper than the main stream flowing out of Thung Cave.
Next to the lake is the main river of Thung Cave, in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
Initial assessment is that this could be a lake connecting to another underground cave system in Thung Cave and could open up a very large cave at the bottom of Thung Cave.
"All the comments are just hypotheses and need many expeditions and more equipment to survey this mysterious lake. With such a strange depth, the mysterious lake of Thung cave may open up new discoveries with many surprises in cave exploration", Mr. Le Luu Dung shared.
Previously, as Dan Viet reported, the survey team of Jungle Boss Company Limited discovered a lake hanging on the wall of Thung Cave, which took 1.5 days to reach.
This lake is located in a branch of Thung Cave, about 1km from the cave entrance, with a surface area of over 100m2, surrounded by stalactites. Currently, the source of water flowing into this lake is still a mystery.
