Why did agricultural products imported through Lao Cai border gate increase sharply?

Prolonged rains and floods in many key agricultural provinces in recent times have caused severe damage. Thousands of hectares of crops were flooded, output decreased sharply, causing a shortage of agricultural products, especially vegetables and fruits. In this context, Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. II (Lao Cai) has become the main transit point for agricultural products imported from China to Vietnam.

Imported agricultural products doubled compared to the same period

According to the reporter, every day there are 500-600 vehicles carrying imported goods through Kim Thanh border gate, double the number at the beginning of the year. This number shows a clear "reversal" of the market.

After completing import procedures, Chinese agricultural products are brought to logistics yards for loading, unloading, and transport to wholesale markets on the same day.

Ms. Do Thi Hong Nhung, Director of Logistics 379 Company Limited, said that the company's nearly 5-hectare cargo staging area is always operating at full capacity.

On average, every day there are about 500 vehicles carrying imported agricultural products through Kim Thanh International Road Border Gate No. 2.

Ms. Nhung shared: When vehicles enter, we have to guide and regulate traffic to avoid congestion. Vehicles entering and exiting must rotate smoothly to promptly transport goods to the provinces. Most of the goods must be shipped on the same day, so we have to carefully arrange both facilities and human resources.

The initiative of logistics enterprises, along with support from authorities, has helped the flow of agricultural products take place quickly, reducing loss and maintaining the quality of goods.

The joy of local traders and workers

This excitement not only solves the problem of agricultural product supply shortage for the domestic market but also breathes new life into economic activities in the border gate area, creating a bustling atmosphere, bringing joy to traders and helping workers have more stable income.

After being transported to logistics yards, goods will be loaded, classified, and then sold at wholesale markets.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a trader with many years of experience in trading agricultural products in Lao Cai said that not only has the market improved, but administrative procedures have also been significantly improved, creating maximum conditions for businesses.

Ms. Hoa shared: The market is improving, administrative procedures are also faster. Agencies, especially Customs and Border Guard, create maximum conditions for businesses to open declarations and complete procedures very quickly.

According to Ms. Hoa, the "quickness" in handling procedures is the result of administrative reform and simplification of procedures at border gates, helping goods circulate smoothly.

Not only do small traders benefit, nearly 1,000 workers at Kim Thanh border gate also have stable jobs thanks to the increased demand for loading, unloading and sorting goods.

The bustling goods market creates jobs for thousands of freelance workers.

A day is also two to three hundred thousand, on the best days is three to four or five hundred. The main job is sorting goods, not too hard. We want the goods to be bustling to have a stable income.

That simple wish is also the common hope of many local workers - those who are directly benefiting from the recovery of border trade activities.

Maintain customs clearance rhythm, take advantage of year-end opportunities

The sudden increase in traffic volume poses a major challenge to the logistics system at the border gate. The staging and loading yards are always operating at maximum capacity. To avoid congestion, businesses must closely coordinate with the authorities in regulating vehicles, improving infrastructure and operating procedures.

It is forecasted that domestic demand for agricultural products will continue to increase in the final months of the year. Import activities through Lao Cai border gate are therefore expected to continue to be vibrant, opening up opportunities for small traders, logistics enterprises and workers.

This is also proof of Lao Cai's increasingly important role in the national agricultural supply chain, affirming the locality's position as a major agricultural trading center in the Northern region.
